Is this device ideal for that scenario?** A: Works based on a consistent stride, so may not be the best for hiking. And with long distances, be careful of overuse tendonitis too, try Treat Your Own Achilles Tendinitis if you get it. **Q: Any suggestions to setting up the HJ-321? I can't get it to let me input the time, my weight and my stride.** A: The instructions are a bit difficult to follow but once you get it setup, it works great. My boyfriend has a FitBit pedometer which cost 4X what this one does and they track your steps just as accurate together. I might upgrade to that if I feel the need to...but for now, this is sufficient. The clip slides on the device and does move. It comes with a slip on clip which can be attached to a waist belt or something similar. The device is a basic pedometer which allows you to configure your weight, stride length, height and clock. It's simple to configure via mode and set buttons. It displays the time on standby and stores results for calories burned, steps taken, kms covered. The memory option stores data for 7 days. It also has an option to record aerobic steps but i am not sure what this really is. The device uses a battery similar to the one used in watches and we are provided a screw driver to open the back panel in case the battery needs a change. As said its a basic pedometer so any number of continuous movements are recorded as steps.
