My first was the Fintie Folio case, which was a good solid case for the money and protected my tablet very well. My biggest (and really only) complaint about the Fintie Folio was its bulk. The buttons and jacks were awkward to get to in the best of cases and almost impossible to get to in the worst (plugging in a pair of headphones with a 90-degree turn were next to impossible with the Folio).Conversely, I absolutely love the Poetic Slimline case. It's small, compact, streamlined; it fits my tablet like a glove without - unlike the Fintie Folio - getting in the way of any buttons, sensors, or jacks AND all without interrupting my use of the tablet in the least. The cover flap is super thin, folds back along the tablet when I use it to read, play, what-have-you. The microfiber business seems to protect the screen with no scratching. The back is a hard plastic that covers the tablet well (even on the corners) but allows access to everything you need.I cannot speak to how it stands up in landscape mode since I rarely ever use it that way; though it does feel as though it might be difficult to stay standing if you were to do so. I've only had this case for a few weeks so I also cannot speak to its longevity but my gut says that some detractors' experiences are probably well-founded: The "hinge" of the cover does seem like the weak point and although I have noticed NO wearing of it yet, I will not be terribly surprised if I do in the future. I will say that friends and family who've owned this these cases longer than I have noticed tiny bits of fraying (which I can happily live with) in exactly those spots on the "hinge" but otherwise they seem to be holding up just fine.I do not baby my tablet but nor do I throw it around like a football. I'll carry it in my satchel or pack it away for trips but rarely in styrofoam or in anything besides the case it's already in. However, I'm not quite brave enough to let a piece of glass that big just lay around unprotected. I scoured Amazon for a case that would work well, and went with the Poetic. The price was good, the reviews were good, and I liked the available colors (I got mine in lime green).I was very surprised how much I liked this case! It wraps snugly around the Nexus, and honestly doesn't add much to it in the way of thickness or heft. It just feels solid now, and I no longer fear putting it in a jacket pocket or stacking it on top of some books to carry with me. The magnetic wake/sleep latch works perfectly, and I really like not having to hit the button on the Nexus anymore. I can still swing the cover around the back and hold it in one hand if I want to, although I'll admit that when I'm reading at night in bed, I use two hands (and probably would even without the cover). I have not had any of the issues with the display going to sleep with the cover folded behind it that early reviewers had, so I assume this problem has been taken care of. I also did not have any issues accessing buttons or ports on the tablet, and the speakers are given slits to emit sound through.Let me be frank on the "folding stand" portion. There is no magnet (that I can discern) on the hinge part of the cover, so the flap does not snap in to make a triangle like you see on Apple's Smart Covers. However, I'm still able to tuck the third flap in and have the weight of the Nexus keep the stand in place (in typing or in standing position) so this hasn't been a major issue for me. I typically don't use the Nexus this way, since typing two-handed on it is analogous to torture and I don't usually stand it up to watch things. If I did, I would be less confident in its ability to stay up than if we were talking about an iPad + Smart Cover, but I wouldn't be super-confident about the iPad, either (say, if it were on a table and someone hip-checked it). And that's why I got this one; it looks great - much better than the one that I had on my previous Nexus 7. It fits well, and the green fits my rather idiosyncratic purposes well too.I'm keeping the information below for history, and to highlight poetic's great customer service. Today I received in the mail, without having asked, a new poetic Nexus 7 cover that works perfectly. They've completely fixed the previous issue with the auto-on-off magnets, and I can now unreservedly recommend the product.--- Below is a description of the issue with the first version - they fixed this issue, and sent me a new cover, without being asked - now you should buy this cover ---However, after I put it on, I found that, with the cover folded back to behind the tablet, it becomes impossible to enter a pin-pattern to log in. As soon as one does, it flashes the screen and goes back to the login. I thought that I had run into a terrible login bug, and rebooted the tablet. It seemed to login the first time, but on lock I got the same cycle of not being able to unlock.I tracked it down to the cover position. I'm almost certain that, with the cover folded back, the magnets in the cover are activating the magnetic power-off in the Nexus 7.
