It will supply accurate time for all computers and time keeping devices on the network. Supporting both Precision Time Protocol (PTP) and Network Time Protocol (NTP), a Stratum 1 time source can now be available on the local network with no need for an internet connection. The system uses an active GPS antenna to maintain the current time as broadcast by United States GPS satellites planet wide. In addition, a high stability OCXO reference clock is included that allows the unit to serve time if GPS lock is lost for periods of time. The TM2000B has additional processing to improve the holdover accuracy of this next generation time server. The unit is small and can be placed anywhere within the network layout. The built in high sensitivity GPS receiver is able to lock multiple satellites from within many buildings or from a window location, removing the requirement that outdoor antennas be installed in many applications. Its easy to set up, and configure, and it acquires the satellites fairly rapidly* and generates a time signal shortly after connecting, providing a Stratum 1 data to my network. The three LED indicators on the front give you immediate status, as to LOCK status, Power, and Time generation. *The unit comes with a Patch antenna, and they say that works well on exterior windows, however our IT room is windowless and as such we are using the external antenna, and that works great. (I am a Radio guy myself, so I would recommend using an exterior antenna every time!) The time server has a ethernet connection to my Core switch, I put it on its own VLAN to isolate it from other network traffic - and it provides time to all devices on a medium size network. I would recommend the rack mounted clock display to accompany this as well as the 1U bracket, which makes for a neat, tidy NTP Master clock installation I will say that you will probably get a better price direct from the vendor, and if you're going to use an external antenna and Lighting arrestor, look to a HAM or professional Radio vendor for better prices. The manufacturer of the device has some recommended options if putting something outdoors/rooftop is an option. Alternately, the TM2000B, if connected to the Internet and only needed for NTP time serving, can be setup to get its time from Peer time servers and server time that way without a GPS signal. **Q: Will this device act as a Grand Master?** A: Yes. **Q: Does it support ptp profile g.8275.2?** A: Yes, it supports the Telecom profile. **Q: What is the current requirement (amps)? What is the input voltage tolerance?** A: Total current draw is under an Amp. Higher draw at startup to warm up the OCXO. The input voltage regulator is tolerant of a wide range of voltages, but 9-14V should be just fine, this has not been extensively tested. I guess due in part to supply chain issues none of them could deliver a unit within a 3-6 month or longer time frame.
