Setup was stupid easy—plug it in, pair once, and it just works. It connects automatically every time I start the car, which honestly feels like how CarPlay should’ve worked from the beginning. The connection has been stable for me with no random dropouts, even on rough roads. I was a little skeptical about lag, but navigation, music, and calls all run smoothly. When it works. - For reference: I am using this on a 2018 GTI and a relatively new Android phone. My car has wired, but not wireless, CarPlay/Android Auto. I looked into wireless CarPlay options a few years back and they didn't really make sense - $300 and the size of a large portable battery. I was excited when I saw a few of these smaller adapters come out for a tenth of the price and decided to pick one up. The good: When this connects properly it works great. There's no noticeable lag and it connects quickly. It does what I was looking for, which is hands-free CarPlay connection for short drives. The bad: Connection can be incredibly finicky when first getting in the car. It works flawlessly about 75% of the time, recognizing my phone and loading Android Auto. For some unknown reason the other 25% of the time my phone throws an error saying "Your car's software didn't pass Android Auto security checks" and refuses to connect. At this point I have to get my phone out, go to Bluetooth, manually select the wireless adapter, and then accept the connection on my car's screen. Not to mention, even though I've forgotten the car as a Bluetooth connection in my phone (and forgotten my phone's connection in the car) in favor of the wireless adapter, since the adapter is still communicating with my phone via the USB port *there is no way to remove the car as a bluetooth option*. This means that when the wireless adapter connection throws a security warning, it connects to the car via Bluetooth instead (again, no way to forget this connection since the adapter makes it for you - I even have Bluetooth turned off on my car now). Once connected directly to the car via Bluetooth I have to disconnect from that and reconnect to the wireless adapter. At the end of the day this is a pretty small inconvenience - it takes maybe 5 seconds to swipe to Bluetooth and click on the wireless adapter. BUT the entire reason for going wireless is so that I never have to take my phone out of my pocket. If I have to do this I may as well just plug the phone in when I get in the car (especially considering wireless CarPlay's battery life isn't great).
