Its adaptable for both. I’ve found that it works best to use a large sheet of white paper abutted against the stand in order to eliminate extraneous background. You may have to adjust your photo size to eliminate all distracting background. As with all copystands, you may need adjust focus, image size and have a couple of external light sources to eliminate unwanted shadows. We were looking fore a portable solution and thought it might work, but the employees who tried it said it was too heavy to pack around and a lot of the images they took were blurry because it wiggled as they set it up on different counters and spaces.
