This is good leather in both material and craftsmanship. The stitching is good and the tanning is great, the leather itself is well-made. Kudos to the leather and the manufacturing. Take pride in that. Awesome! Now the problems. A mag pouch is not just about holding on to mags. It is a tactical device/tool that facilitates good tactical maneuvering and, specifically in this case, the movements/motion to retrieve a fully loaded mag and top off. Right? Issue on the design: as seen in the photo, the pouch is just way too deep. There is not enough mag exposed for a firm grasp by the support hand and then properly index the rounds. Pouch this deep might as well just put the spare mags in pockets...or fully cover them up. No no no, wrong tactical design. Compare to a different manufacturer's mag pouch you see how much more mag is available for grabbing and indexing. (You may not understand this if you don't already know what indexing a spare mag is... Can't get into details right now, sorry). The fingers are required here to pull the mag out instead of the palm pulling out the mag. There is just not enough depth. Also keep in mind I am using an 8 rd mag which is already a bit longer. If you have a 7 rd mag, it will seat even deeper still. In the photo comparison I lined up the loop so the photo is showing exact depth of the mag available to your support hand. There's quite a bit. Loop-on-loop lined up is exactly how it will be carried. Second problem: the mag pouch is one hunk of a piece of leather. A lot of leather. And the loop is far from the mags (ie the loops are separated quite a distance from the mags). This means A LOT of presentation and printing, if happens. But the biggest problem is when worn, the long spread loop positions forces the pouch to curve around which inexplicably tightens down on the mags...like a tight sandwich effect. The mags become extremely difficult to pull. Extremely difficult. The mags could come out somewhat easily when the pouch is laid perfectly flat. As soon as it was worn the tightening effect became apparent. This forces you to have to wear it much further behind in a 7 o'clock position or so where there's less curvature or body contouring. The mag pouch is not canted in such way to support that carry position. So a giant pickle! There you have it. This is a great piece of leather and good workmanship but the design concept in terms of tactical-minded specifications were completely off. Too deep, too tight, and too large. If the loop can be built onto the mag portion instead of on the "elephant ears" the pouch wouldn't curve that much causing tightness. Reduce the height of the pouch (and save on leather) allowing hand a full firm grasp on the mag itself... and possibly conditioned interior for a smoother draw (right now it is very tight when new, a lot of friction leather on steel).. Sorry, cannot recommend. Good leather but just not the correct answer to your tactical needs. Beautiful to look at and very pretty sheen...... too bad it doesn't function as beautifully as it looked.
