I decided to buy two more for work and both Soldering irons are malfunctioning after 1 month of light use. They turn on and you can select a temperature but the screens flicker and the temperature jumps around randomly. Soldering anything bigger than a 24 gauge or a solder pad bigger than 2mm and the soldering iron cant keep up and will randomly shut off. After it shuts off even after a reset sometimes it wont read the tip. I have tried different tips as we have 3 for each iron, the b02, the original that comes with it as well as the wedge tip. I loved the first one I received which has none of the issues listed above and as far as I can tell is identical to the new ones we received. Can no longer recommend these as they are less reliable than a 15$ soldering iron. Edit 2/1/21 Customer support has reached out to me about RMA of soldering irons. Will update when replacements are on the way. Edit 2/19/21 Customer support has solved the issues of bad tips and set replacements and the soldering irons are back to performing as well as my original Review: Updated: Now with power delivery! - Note: I got my TS80P at a different website. So things have changed a bit from my previous review. First, the OLED screen on my old TS80 became dim to the point of impossible to read. Second, Miniware released a bunch of different tips with the 3.5mm connector, so I finally have a hoof tip. Finally, the TS80P was released, updating the power circuitry to support USB Power Delivery up to 30 watts, almost double the 18 watts of its predecessor. But you don't need to use the adapter that comes with the iron, you can still use that 18 watt QC3 battery I suggested... though to be fair, that option is in very short supply (Omnicharge might be a good option). The sliding handle/collar could be annoying, but it's screwed on just like the collar of the TS80, so if you're upgrading like I am, just swap them. Heat up looks pretty quick, but the TS80 was reasonably fast too, so I don't really notice a huge difference. Like all Miniware irons, you can flash IronOS to the TS80P to unlock a ton of features. If like me you have Nova LED signage software installed, the iron could show up in Windows as a Nova device (probably because of the STM32 controller). If this happens, you'll need to go find the STM32 device in Device Manager and change the driver manually to USB mass storage. After that, any firmware update or downgrade should work as normal. A healthy 4 amp-hour lead acid battery, starting with a full charge, should be able to run for over an hour without getting excessively discharged. (You don't want a 12V lead-acid battery to discharge below around 10.2V minimum. It's bad for the cells.) Nickel Metal Hydride batteries are also good power sources for this sort of application but you'd have to build your own stack from D-cells (it would take 10 batteries in series to give you a 13.5V pack). Chargers are a bit harder to find for large cells of this type, particularly when they're in a pack. Nickel Metal Hydride batteries are less sensitive about being heavily discharged than are lead-acid types. Lithium-ion batteries have the best energy to weight characteristics around but they are dangerous to build your own packs from unless you know how to charge and balance the cells. It's slim in the hand, puts your grip fairly close to the tip, and works quite well. When connected to a Quick Charge-compatible Anker-brand power bank, it's a solid field iron that has no trouble reaching and maintaining 400C or lower, enough for nearly any job. The included USB-C cable is supple, flexible silicone and is a thoughtful addition. The value-add bundled mini soldering stand is flimsy, but does the job.
