Many wood workers use a jack plane instead of a smoother. The blade was bouncing around in the box and was chipped will need to be ground down and resharpening with need to be done it's all out of tune and needed to be taken apart and adjusted .. I'm still on the fence if I'm going to send it back and look at something else I have a month .
