原著の英語レベルは決して高くありません。高校程度の文法理解があれば十分読めます。内容については、UNIXの規格であるPOSIX,SUSｖ３を軸にLinuxのバージョンやUnix派生OS毎の違い、また互換性に言及されていてかなり丁寧です。表面的なAPIの解説にとどまらず、内部構造やAPIの相関が詳しく述べられているので、本格的にLinux環境で開発される方には必携の一冊であるといえます。このAPIの相関というのは非常に重要で、知らずに開発で使うと大ハマリする原因となります。本書にはそういった相関も考慮したサンプルコードが多数掲載されているので、時間はかかりますがLinux開発環境を横に置いて実際にコードを動かしながら読み進める方法をおすすめします。私はこれからカーネルの勉強に進みたいと思っているクチですが、本書を読んで弾みがついた気がします。
