Streamlight TLR-1 Tactical Weapon Toy Gun

A bit long on a compact but not an actual issue with function

I did quite a lot of research on this light. It appears to be the least expensive quality light that will stand up to recoil. I have seen it used on many tactical pistols with thousands of rounds through them and listed on AR-15 forums as durable tactical lights, when I looked up this light compared to others. My personal experience: the key system and overall design of this light is outstanding. I have it on a Springfield XD 40 and use the Glock key. I can easily switch it out and use the 1911 key for my AR carbine or pistol-soon to be SBR. The toggle switch is pretty user friendly. I use a 2 hand grip on my pistol and do have to move my left hand slightly forward on my grip to toggle on with my left index finger. However the rocker is very smooth. You use the right side of the toggle switch with your index finger to toggle it on momentarily and then if you continue depressing it will switch to on continuous mode. Left toggle is ambi momentary/Right is push down partly to momentary and farther to keep on. I imagine if I had to use this while shooting in a "tactical situation" I would use my left hand index finger while clasping my right hand in a typical golf club like 2 handed grip. I would then periodically hit the light on momentarily to spill into a room on the floor and continue until I needed to engage at which point I would just keep the left finger in the down position and this would keep the light on while you are free to grip the gun with both hands. The rocker switch extends just past the finger guard to aid with this. Compared to my wifes Elzetta. I found it brighter (she doesn't have fresh batteries though) and it has a hot spot with much more spill than the Elzetta. Both a nice white light. For most situations I like the spill of this light much better as you really get a lot of peripheral illumination. This allows you to just point your weapon at the floor while checking on your kids for example. Inside a house there is no reason you ever have to raise your weapon until you have a target. I think the Elzetta would be better for an all purpose AR-15 SHTF gun because of the durability. But I would consider this for a nice weapon light on an AR 15 pistol. Regardless it is an outstanding light. I have not shot it yet but will get back if any problems with recoil from 357 sig/40 caliber.

Mounted and fit perfect on the underside of the fore-end (picatinny)on my Weatherby PA-459 pump shotgun. I'd hoped it matched a blued barrel better but it has a gloss black finish. Quick and easy to install and remove from the picatinny rail. I had read that some others were concerned that the light beam would bounce around when cycling the pump action but I can assure you it does not ... as long as you're capable of holding the barrel half steady. Seems to be a great fit for this tactical shotgun ... even more compact than I expected and weighs next to nothing. At 135 lumens it obviously puts out incredible light. We'll see how it holds up over time with the kick of the pump. Even on sale I'd say it's a little over-priced but perhaps I'm just not accustomed to spending this kind of money on a "flashlight". As long as it holds up I'll be happy. **The CR123A lithium batteries can be difficult to find and VERY pricey so having spares on hand is a good idea.

This is my second Streamlight TLR-1 (the first being the non-C4 LED version). Everything you need is in the package (including batteries and hex key). Brightness is significantly increased with the LED version compared to the previous - but either is more than adequate for it's intended purpose: on a handgun, indoors, for commie-invasion-defense. This model is actually slightly smaller than other similarly priced products, but has the benefits of an aluminum casing, easy and secure attachment, and intuitive use of the on/off switch. The plastics or hybrid alternatives have many instances of breakage during use, so I would strongly recommend the TLR-1 for anyone interested in a pistol light. This would be adequate for a carbine light as well, but would not be my first choice in that application. I have had my first TLR-1 for... 3-4 years with no issues, this item has been to the range through 900+ rounds already and no signs of wear, tear or cracking. The additional weight on the end of the muzzle actually helps assist with muzzle rise, but is modest enough to be forgettable for carry. I avoided plastic models because of the reports of frequent breaking/cracking over time. I carry a CCW with this light during the winter months, and the size is small enough to not be noticable. with a proper holster, there are essentially no draw-backs with the TLR-1 on the gun. I am not a fan of lasers for anything but range-time, and additional size and weight with the TLR-3 may become an issue. However the TLR-1 should work on virtually ANY size handgun with a rail - but I would contemplate the usefulness on compact models as the light will likely project one full inch past the muzzle (defeating the purpose of a compact handgun). In sum: You would be hard pressed to find a more suitable pistol light for the price point. The TLR is an excellent product and I see no need to pay $300+ for a brand-name. If you are on the fence looking for a pistol light for home defense or carry, I would strongly suggest the TLR-1 as your first consideration.
