"The end of the world is coming." From roadside signs to science fiction films, this slogan underscores our societyโs nervous fascination with the future. Whether itโs a giant asteroid, a worldwide plague, or some other global catastrophe, the end of the world is a terrifying prospectโat least for those who have no idea what it will be like. For Christians, however, the end of the world should be anything but dreadful. In fact, it should be something we look forward to. Why? Because God has told us how the world will end. And He has assured us that the end of this age will mark the beginning of a new, glorious one in which we will serve and worship Him in sinless perfection. Our eternal hope, as believers, is intimately tied to the end of this world. All of this is laid out in the book of Revelation. Not only is Revelation the inspired Word of God, it is also the only New Testament book that includes a promised spiritual blessing for those who study and apply its message. As such, it is an essential part of every Christianโs devotional life. Those who ignore Revelation deprive themselves of a rich treasure of divine truth, and the promised blessings that come from understanding that truth. Join John MacArthur as he explains the book of Revelation in a way that is both doctrinally precise and intensely practical. Review: Abridged commentary with solid exegesis and careful detail - This book is an abridged version of Dr. MacArthur's two-volume Revelation commentary. In this book, he takes a verse-by-verse exegetical walkthrough of the book of Revelation using the consistent contextual-literal hermeneutic one would expect from Dr. MacArthur. (Perhaps a more appropriate label for "contextual-literal" would be the "historical-grammatical context" - that is, "How would the original audience have understood the passage at face value?") This is a great read for the layperson interested in understanding the events foretold by the Holy Spirit through the apostle John in the book of Revelation, as well as for those interested in how a consistent hermeneutic interprets the book of Revelation. It is also highly recommended for those curious how pre-millennialists interpret Revelation and understand the events of the end times to unfold, as MacArthur's writing is clear, concise, and yet respectful toward brethren of other millennial mindsets while clearly laying out verse by verse what the Scripture says. As Christian theologians of every millennial leaning tend to agree (including those who ascribe to post-millennial or a-millennial points of view), using a consistent hermeneutic through all of Scripture will lead one to a pre-millennial point of view. Given MacAthur's conviction for a consistent approach to the interpretation of Scripture, you will find his perspective is very much pre-millennial (as opposed to post-millennial, a-millennial, preterist, etc). Yet when it comes to the most difficult passages to interpret, he avoids making the rash presuppositions and outlandish interpretations that one would find characteristic of the 'Left Behind' crowd. (Perhaps it is irony then that Tim LaHaye provides one of the supporting quotes on the back cover.) I find this one of the most attractive things about the book: I could give this book to anyone with an interest in Revelation with the confidence that the content will educate them on the basics, encourage them to study further, and effect a greater love for the Word of God. As with his other books, it is written in an easy-to-read style (and typeface) that packs a lot of content yet doesn't tire the mind ( or the eyes). His average book seems to come in around 200-250 pages; this one is slightly longer at 338 pages, but thankfully so as the subject matter warrants every page. At no time did it seem overly verbose for the sake of length - a couple times I would have appreciated even more depth (though for that one can purchase the full-length, two-volume commentary). Review: Wow!!! - Terrifying, enlightening, educational, and encouraging all in one. Absolutely fantastic read. This book is more than well worth your time especially if you are an Eschatology fan.

Understanding End Times
Many Christians view the book of Revelation as mystifying symbolism and striking imagery and may be bewildered by it. For this reason, many believers and church leaders avoid serious study of the book. Some may actually dread the end of time as we know it, but for Christians, the end of the world should be anything but dreadful. It should be something we actually look forward to, because God has told us how it will end. The end of this age will mark the beginning of a new, glorious one in which we will serve and worship Him in sinless perfection. All of this is laid out in the book of Revelation - the only New Testament book that includes a promised spiritual blessing for those who study and apply its message. It should be an essential part of every Christian's devotional life. After all, Revelation promises blessings to those who read it and adhere to its message. John Macarthur explains the book of Revelation in a way that is both doctrinally precise and intensely practical. He does an excellent work in explaining end times based on Scripture and the study of what God has revealed. However, there are still many mysteries man cannot know, and that is when we must leave it in God's hands and be grateful for what He has revealed. Lack of understanding may bring fear, but Macarthur takes the reins and connects the dots of what is revealed in a most understandable manner - without the pretentiousness of having ALL the answers. Macarthur's explains the book of Revelation in such a manner that satisfies the reader's desire for deeper understanding of end times. I give "Because the Time is Near" by John Macarthur a 5-star review. Review by: Rita Kroon, author of "Discover God through His Attributes," "Praying the Scriptures," and "Womanhood: Becoming a Woman of Virtue" (women's Bible study).

John MacArthur's masterful exposition breaks down the complex symbolism and imagery, providing a compelling and biblically sound interpretation. This book is both informative and encouraging, offering a deeper appreciation for God's sovereignty and the ultimate triumph of Christ. Whether you're new to Revelation or have studied it before, MacArthur's clear writing and insightful commentary will illuminate this often-misunderstood book and strengthen your faith in God's plan for the future.

Biblical teachings on the book of Revelation
This is a great book by pastor John MacArthur. He expounds this intriguing book with clarity and biblical base. This is not a thorough exposition (that can be found on his more indepth commentary on Revelation), but it is an excellent start for those who want to learn the biblical teachings on this marvelous book of Revelation. This is a must read for all.

A must read
I bought this book because I needed a better understanding regarding Revelation. As most know, revelation is a hard book to understand. This book was excellent. It gave a great understanding as well as an explanation relating to all the parodies in it. I have such a better understanding and knowledge regarding our end times. I have recommended this book to several people and am I reading it a second time

Very Good Study Of The Linear Timeline Of Revelation in The Bible
Long time John MacArthur fan here. His biblical teaching methods have always been plain yet thought provoking because of the depth with which he presents each verse. In this book, he breaks down--then draws parallels between--each verse in Revelation (the unveiling) so as to help the reader acquire a better grasp of this amazing part of the Bible. There are parts of Revelation that correspond to other parts; there are also chapters that are outside of the time line, sort of like a side story if you will. Revelation is the only book in the Bible that promises a blessing upon all who read it. While I greatly value MacArthur's ministry I do not agree with him on every issue, the biggest one being the Rapture ("the catching away"). Too many Christians, MacArthur included, equate Wrath with Tribulation and that's where I part ways. Wrath, as in the Day of The Lord when Jesus comes back and defeats His enemies (I'm super-simplifying here) is not the same as the tribulation of the saints (believers).

Trying to decide my Eschatological views... Good starting point.
I am in alignment with Reformed Theology as MacArthur, Sproul and Mohler have explained it to me. However, I am not sure where I fall on end times. This was my starting point and I learned a lot. Next, I am going to read a different viewpoint and try to align myself with scripture as best as I can. I think MacArthur does a great job here but also has some thoughts independent of scripture so I was a bit "skeptical" at times. But overall I learned a lot and I am striving to understand the Revelation from our Lord Jesus Christ. I recommend this book and give it 5 stars because it's easy to understand and a really great starting point, or at least it was for me. I trust MacArthur and believe he has strong conviction and evidence for his eschatology, though I may end up disagreeing with some of it.

Explaining complex theology in a easy to understand way
If you need to fully understand one of the hardest books in the Bibles, this is the one to read. John MacArthur unpacks each verse and explains what the apostle John is referring to. I have read this several times, as there is so much here to unpack. The references are brilliant and how this book brings out both old and New Testament teaching, and brings to light the prophetic words of many early writers that culminate in Revelation. MacArthur is a well respected bible scholar who has a way of explaining complex theology in a easy to understand way.

Don't understand Revelations?
You think you understand Revelations? You probably don't. Read, study this book and your Bible together...and you will know how this filthy, sinful, rebellious world will end as well as the vast majority of people in it. Including the evil one and his minions.

Simplified, Straightforward, Accurate, Practical and True-to-the-Scripture commentary.
I am 36 years old in 2020. So far, I have listened and learned all sorts of fantasy stories linked with the book of Revelation from various Mainstream and mega church pastors and televangelists. But, this book from pastor John MacArthur (whom I consider as my spiritual mentor through his teachings, video sermons and books) helps me understand the accurate meaning of each verses that was spoken by our Lord and the saviour Jesus Christ to His disciple and apostle John. So far, I have read the commentaries about the letters given to the seven churches that were located in the Asia minor. The format used by pastor for explanation is so much easy for me to understand about the churches and the context behind those letters. For example: The Correspondent - Who wrote the letter to the church. (Titles given that refers to Christ) The Church - Who, When and Where the church was founded. It's background, both historical and spiritual. The City - Historical details about the city where the church was located. The Commendation - Jesus commend the church for her faithfulness and holiness. The Concern - Verses about Jesus' concern on what and where the church was lagging and what went wrong. The Command - Jesus' words of command for the church to repent from the sin they were committing at that time. The Counsel - Jesus' words of conclusion where He promises salvation and eternal life for the church if they repent from their sins. Such a great book for anyone who wants to understand the book of Revelation clearly.
