I also thought Daphne and Miles were great together, the kind of opposites who bring out the best in each other. It's clear that was missing from both of their previous relationships, and Henry does a fantastic job of exploring some heavier concepts while still keeping the story entertaining. The forced proximity was so good, and I loved that Daphne and Max were able to come out the other side even stronger. Not that I'm surprised - Julia Whelan always gives phenomenal performances, and the hearty dose of angst in the story made her narration even stronger. It's not super spicy at all, but there is a bit of heat - more than Henry's usual. The topics are also heavier than I usually like for a workday listen, so not sure I can recommend it as that. But the audio absolutely enhances an already-excellent story, so I highly recommend it in the format. Emily Henry knows how to make the reader love the book so much that I wish I could just re-read this book over for the first time to relive the magic. I felt deeply for the main character, Daphne. She is a people pleaser and did anything she could to make herself lovable to the people around her, despite what she liked or felt comfortable with. I saw myself in her, not regarding love, but in terms of friendships. There have been plenty of times I fit myself into a box as much as I could so I could maintain friendships throughout my life. I just wanted to be loved as a friend, as much as most people would, that I felt like Daphne a lot of the time. I’ve had to let go of friends in my life because I couldn’t keep giving myself to them without feeling like a priority in their life – much like Daphne had to learn herself. I’m still learning it myself, so I loved to read about her character. She was sassy, despite being awkward, and full of witty liners that I wish I came up with. Miles and Daphne’s circumstances were unique but full of banter, slow burn, sexual tension, and friendship. I craved to see Miles name on the page. Emily Henry knows how to make the reader want more and more. It was sweet and spicy. Slow and full of emotion. The back and forth created the perfect slow burn that I cannot get enough of.
