Review: "Higher" Low Notes Make This Perfect for Music - We received this subwoofer yesterday and tried it extensively today. We own a pair of small speakers in back which, though good overall, suffer from the usual imperfections of outdoor listening. This clear, efficient woofer fills the gap. [Yes, any speaker now can be used outdoors. Protective spray coatings are available, or weatherproof fabric covers can be ordered to fit any size and shape of speaker cabinet.] Since the Sony SA-CS9 allows a frequency range from 28 Hz, adjustable to as high as 200 Hz, it reaches further up into the "mid-bass" range than the usual 125 Hz cut-off. This benefit renders the Sony sub perfect for music, even paired with very small speakers. We reduce their bass output from the amp's tone control, allowing the sub to make up the difference. Even heard at a soft volume, outdoor (or indoor) music displays more richness and accuracy, without disturbing the neighbors. This wide-range subwoofer is a great find. From my results so far, i would recommend it without any doubt! // Some Features: Adjustable crossover and volume; optional automatic on/off; 115 watts RMS (200 peak) active output; fiber cone (not paper); sturdy cabinet; relatively compact size; ported design; simple, flexible set-up; low price; high-quality sound.
Review: Sony SACS9 - Best of the Bunch - I bought this subwoofer sight unseen and without the showroom testing that others have gone through. I did this mainly because audio equipment showrooms are sparse in my locale - there's Walmart and then it's quite a step down to Sears. Not much to pick and choose from. So, I had to rely mostly on online technical reviews and customer satisfaction reviews. My choices boiled down to the Sony SACS9, Klipsch R-10SW, Polk Audio PSW10, and JBL Arena S10. The Klipsch was the first to be eliminated, based solely on budget reasons. If I had more money to spend, maybe I would have chosen it. Next to be eliminated was the popular Polk PSW10. It seemed to me to be the "plain Jane" of the group - a good solid performer, but nothing really outstanding. So, the final choice boiled down to the Sony SACS9 or the JBL Arena S10. The Sony had the advantage of frequency range. The JBL had the advantage in crispness. Since my needs were broad - the speaker is being used not just for music but for AV multimedia purposes - I chose the more versatile Sony. If I had been purchasing the speaker solely for music, I would have chosen the JBL. Of course, the fact that the Sony's were on sale for $20 less than the JBL certainly swayed my decision some. The Sony SACS9 was delivered to my home late last week and I added it to my 5.1 system, which includes an Onkyo TX-NR656 receiver, a pair of Sony SSCS5 bookshelf speakers, and a Sony SSCS8 center channel speaker. I'm awaiting shipment of a pair of JBL Arena B15 bookshelf speakers. So far, I'm very happy with how all the components of the system match. They not only work well together acoustically, but they also fit the rather tight confines of the room that I'm using (a converted patio, 8' x 20'). The Sony SACS9 happened to be the smallest of the 4 subwoofers that I was comparing by about 23%. That's given me more options as to where I want it placed and positioned. Performance-wise, the SACS9 sounds great to me. It fills out the bass and sub-bass spectra that would otherwise be missing from my system. And it's plenty loud for my setup. I'm still playing around with the bass volume control, frequency pass-through/cut-off level, speaker balance control, speaker direction, and speaker location. There's plenty of capacity and flexibility built into the speaker to satisfy its listeners. I spent a total of $603 for my 5.1 AV sound system, including the receiver and speakers; plus an additional $48 for speaker wire, banana plugs, and speaker mounting hardware. It's the best system that I could put together within my budget. It fulfills all of my present needs. Hopefully, it is sufficiently "future-proofed" so that it will continue to pay dividends for years to come.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: This price is for a pair or are sold individually?**
A: These questions/answers appear under multiple items, so the answers are inconsistent. The bookshelf speakers are paired, but the floorstanding speakers and the center channel speakers are sold individually.

**Q: What are the size(diameter) of tweeters / midranges / subwoofers ? And do these have passive crossovers inside?**
A: Dear Kim,There is a passive crossover in the speaker. 3/4" Super tweeter, 1" Tweeter, and 5 1/4" Woofer.Eric C

**Q: How is the bass to use without subwoofer?**
A: I just spent a couple days measuring these speakers with REW (Room EQ Wizard) with and without the SACS9 subwoofer. In my room, these speakers play below 50hz (although there is a lot of ringing below 200hz). I found the best crossover setting on the back of the subwoofer was at the minimum setting (50hz) and appropriate volume for the room (8-9 o'clock position for my room). Anything higher than that and I'm getting large peaks at the crossover point. Purchase these speakers when they are on sale (I got mine for $88 and the sub for $99) and you will not be disappointed.

**Q: I recently purchased the SSCS8 Center and 2 SACS9 subs, Which Sony speakers would be recommended for the Front L&R Surround L&R Back L&R?**
A: Depending on how big of a room your set up will be in. If it's a small room, you can use the Sony SS-B1000 5-1/4-inch Bookshelf Speakers for the front left and right; the side surround left and right; and the rear surround left and right. For a big room, I would recommend the Sony SS-B3000 Bookshelf Speakers for the Front Left and right and then use the Sony SS-B1000 Bookshelf Speakers for the rest of the surrounds. This is the set up that I have in my room and it's 15'x15'. It sounds amazing...

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent Subwoofer, Excellent Service!
*by M***E on July 1, 2023*

This is a very reasonable subwoofer for the price. It has clean sound, a built-in amplifier (it's an "active" subwoofer), controls for amplifier gain (volume) and cutoff frequency, and an energy-saving mode that turns it off automatically when not in use. It's of reasonable size, matches the other Sony-branded components and speakers, and looks good. I ordered this as a second sub to increase the amount of bass in a very big room. It stacked perfectly on top of an identical unit that I bought originally with the amp and speaker set. NOW, a shout out to the seller, who provided awesome service: There was a small cosmetic problem with the sub when I received it, possibly due to rough handling during shipping; the seller responded immediately and corrected the problem without question. Excellent service by seller! I would definitely order from this seller again.
