So the fact that they’re willing to put a defective product back on the shelf explains why I have a defective product. That’s what they do. They resell defective products. If it is heavily plated it could show up as a certain karat gold. You can use a file to cut a slot and then test again. It will then show it is either gold or not gold.It will not test titanium, but titanium is very light weight. There is a manual that comes with the tester. There is a ET18 Owner's Manual online. **Q: how does it show gold plating?** A: If you would like to know how to tell the difference if plated gold or not you'll have to use a file and file in a place the aint that noticeable if it is something that you dont want ruinant and a very small file of course and then apply the acid to text on the file spot the gold tester Et18 RS Mizar are meant for testing real gold not plated so if when you file the item and it is testing real then it probably is oh ya and if your testing scrap gold you can file just anywhere on it because what difference is it going to make on the scrap when you test it none because it wont matter it is getting recycled any how **Q: does it come with acid, battery and everything to start right away** A: Yes it does come with Acid, for the battery I believe so. It works well, but you will to be careful of two things: First the indication it above 10K or 14K or 18K, often when the Jewelry is made it rounded up Ex.. 13.55 to 14k (plumb) the machine will indicate 10K or the lower level.Second Chains or linked are not easy to test, and often a heavy plated item will past as positive. **Q: Is the strictly electronic testing, or do you use acid also?** A: You use acid3 drop with 1 drop activator and electronics to test carats of gold, 10 thru 24.
