Review: Does Its Job, No Fuss - This pressure relief valve is solidly built with thick brass and a sturdy stainless steel spring. It fits snugly with the 3/4" NPT connection and works exactly as expected. No leaks, no weird noises, just reliable pressure relief. It’s a little bulkier than some other options, but the quality is worth it. Installation was easy, and for the price, it’s a great value. Perfect for keeping a hot water system safe and running smoothly.
Review: Apples vs Oranges? David vs. Goliath? - Update Nov '25: My old valve is leaking again (well below the 30PSI threshold) which prompted me to do further research. Most (but not all) of the results suggest that these valves are NOT the same for Hot Water Tanks vs. Boilers. That explains why this unit does not compare well to the one on my oil burner. And it contradicts picture 4 in the description. So I'm not going to take chances and purchase a 1-to-1 replacement. My advice: Do your own research if you have a visual mismatch. Original review below: Is it fair to compare this new unit (left) to the old heavy duty one of yesteryear? Probably not. At the beginning of this heating season, I had noticed that a half a cup of water had leaked through the pressure valve. So I thought it was time to replace it. Once the new unit arrived, I remembered that I had bought a similar one some 4 years ago, and returned it unused. Once the old (heavy duty) one was uninstalled, I realized it can be cleaned out, and looked a lot more durable than the new one. Deja-vu, right. So, I do not plan to throw out the old one any time soon. I'm going to keep the new one as a spare, right on the furnace in easy reach, when needed. To facilitate a potential install, I'll also get a 3/4" female connector, because this valve has a male connector. Threading it directly into the top of the furnace, I'm afraid, would be too tight of a fit. Just like the old (and larger) one, it needs to be raised at least an inch so that the exhaust end of the pipe stays above the outer panel of the furnace. The four star rating is therefore an educated guess, as it is unpredictable when/if I will actually use this new unit, for reasons stated above. If it works, it is certainly a good value for the posted price.
