With automatic soap dispenser there is no germ spreading. Put your hand under once and wash away. This dispenser gives the "perfect" amount of foam soap for a thorough hand washing. **Q: How does this automatic soap dispenser work?** A: The way it works is you put your hand under the spout and foam comes out. But you obviously know this. You can use standard foam soap that is used in any of the hand pump foam dispensers. However, you can also take your standard, non-foam soap, such as Dawn, and mix it with water to make up a solution that also dispenses foam. I am using the latter since I already had a big bottle of Dawn. It's amazing how slowly the soap solution gets used up. You can keep using the foam dispenser and it seems the level doesn't go down. That's great since I don't care how much I put on my Dobie when doing dishes. Yes, I use it in the kitchen and love it. If you get one squirt of foam and want more suds, just do it again. I've never had to go 3 times for one pot, pan, or dish. One is usually enough. I've had this for quite a while and no hint of the need to change batteries, so it is efficient in its use of energy.I have automatic soap dispensers in the 3 bathrooms, but they are not the foaming types. I would love to replace them with this automatic foaming dispenser but the size difference does not allow me to do this. It's not that this is too big for the kitchen sink, but I need a smaller footprint in the bathrooms. You will not regret this purchase. Also, beware, the directions clearly said that this product works best with foaming soap.FYI - The display on the top turns off after about a minute or two, but that does not mean that the unit is off. Just wave your hands in front of it and soap will be dispensed. After a few dispenses, it clogged up and stopped. I cleared it using only water, diluted the water/soap mix even more than recommended, and it clogged up again. Sending it back.Follow up. After writing the above review, I re-read some other reviews and found one that stated they used a ratio of 4:1 water to soap, much more than the instructions call for. I decided to try diluting even more than before and it began working fine. I'm not sure at this point what my ratio is because I simply added a lot of water to the original batch of soap I had not discarded. A guess is that it's probably on the order of 4:1. I want to use it in the kitchen and am using Palmolive Dish Soap. I'm going to hold off returning to see how I like it.
