Produced by Gene Walker and mixed by Andy Wallace and Dan Malsch, GHOST's sixth psalm, Skelet?, is its most unflinchingly introspective work to date. Where previous albums dealt largely with chronicling and/or observing outward facing subject matter - such as IMPERA's meditations on the rise and fall of empires and its predecessor Prequelle's evocations of the ravages of era-defining plagues - Skelet?'s lyrics render the distinct individual emotional vistas of each of its 10 songs in one-on-one fashion, at times as if in a dialogue with oneself in a mirror. The end result is a singular collection of timeless, universal sentiments, all filtered through a prism of a uniquely personal point of view. Review: Amazing music by Ghost. - Love this CD. Review: Top Notch - Top notch album from front to back. Ghost is everything

A new direction, albeit not a throwback.
Excellent album. Another curveball thrown by Tobias Forge. A departure from Prequelle and Impera, but not a throwback to the older stuff, if thatโs what you were hoping for. Straight up โ80s anthems from start to finish. Even a ballad, staying true to form. Production-wise, this is the best yet. Masterfully mixed and mastered. Tobiasโ vocal work is also the best yet. Range, hold and control, all very impressive. He has said in interviews that he has been doing vocal training and it shows. Probably the boldest guitar work to date as well. I grew up on โ80s rock and power metal, so this is right up my alley. Any song in this album could have been released in 1987 and been a massive hit. Pepperings of Alice Cooper, Ozzy, late โ80s Rush, Journey โ to name a few โ all apparent on this album. I love all eras of Ghost, and at times wish we would get a throwback to some of the early years. We certainly didnโt get that this time around, but that doesnโt diminish this album โ it is still fantastic.

Powerhouse Rock with a Gothic Twist
This current release from the Swedish band that defies description contains 10 tracks. This album is both dark and murky. Dark because of the subject matter contained in most of the songs, and murky because some of the instruments have a somewhat muffled sound - at least to my ears. All 10 songs are solid efforts, but Lachryma (track #2) is by far the best track on this CD. It has a great melody, it has key changes, and it has changes in tempo as well. This was the song the band performed when they appeared on The Tonight Show and that performance as well as the band's official video (for this song) are both available on YouTube. Since I have only recently discovered this band, I can't really speak to whether or not this CD is a giant step forward in the band's evolution or merely the next logical step in their current direction. All I can really say is that if they keep releasing CDs like this, the value of their stock is going to start rising and their fan base will continue growing. One thing to be aware of is that they often make references to the Devil and all things evil. Not unlike Black Sabbath, it's often hard to tell if they are promoting that life or warning about the consequences of it. We will all have our opinions on that. This music isn't for everyone, but for those with a taste for the exotic, it may well be just what you have been waiting for. The CD comes in a standard jewel case and contains a better than average booklet with the song lyrics and additional information on the production and recording of the tracks. The graphics are elaborate and are mostly in shades of silver and black - with the exception of the photo under the disc tray - which is a photo of the band members dressed in costume with some eerie blue-green tinting.

WOW!
This is the first Ghost album that I have listened to. I love this! It sounds like the '80s. The tape adds to that feeling. The music sounds like a Michael Jackson cover band and Journey got together to create the most epic soundtrack to some Neverending Story remake. None of this is a negative. It still feels fresh while maintaining that '80s vibe. What a great work of art! I am happy that I bought this.
