Review: Great jumping off point for a strictly human-monster season - SPOILERS AHEAD!! My biggest complaint for this seasons opener is actually the biggest improvement the show has made: it didn't have as much crammed in as I'm used to getting with AHS. Usually, they just relelentlessly assault the audience with an, at times, overwhelming amount of characters and sublots. For once, the set up has been pretty streamlined and stripped down. It's sparse and practically minimalism compared to previous AHS set ups. Again, I know I'm supposed praise the tight focus as an improvement, but I don't watch AHS because it follows the traditional dos and donts of successful TV formulas. I always appreciated that it deviated from that and and wasn't afraid be over the top or sloppy. It was so hungry to please. Not to say I wasn't pleased. Their was plenty of what I came for on displayed. It definitely wasn't subtle, it's was highly stylized, the homages were aplenty, and the humor was spot on! There were some serious nuggets of comedy gold in some of that dialogue. Again, the cast seemed small for AHS, but so far it's quality over quantity. Sarah Paulson starts off at 11 with the paranoid hysteria and her resourceful use of Rose just whets my appetite to see her hopefully fight back more this upcoming season. Seeing her Audrey last season transform into such a survivor was one of season 6's highlights. Billie Lourd's off-puttingly ANTIFAesque, evil babysitter has officially made me forget my Chanel No 3 crush. She and Evans Peters' White Troll make for a very unsettling pair of young villains and it'll be interesting how that gets developed. So a very entertaining set up (though alittle light compared to the big AHS helpings I'm used to) with the disturbing scenes (that poor kid getting exposed to snuff videos on the dark web, the home invasion stuff) mixing well with some really pointed comedy ("what if I get pregnant now, where will I get an abortion!"). It successfully accomplishes what a first episode should--it made me anxious for the next episode.
Review: Quite possibly the best season of AHS - After watching the first four episodes, I think it's safe to say this has quickly become the best season of American Horror Story yet. The story is so revealing of the social issues plaguing the country, and the writers did a great job playing devil's advocate in portraying the whole picture, instead of presenting bias towards one side or another. The pace of the storytelling is perfect, with the ideal amount of tension, plot revelations, twists, and dialogue. The characters are extremely dynamic and intriguing, meaning all aspects of the story (between plot and character development) have much to reveal, which is great that they're able to maintain such a tempo. The writing offers both memorable and humorous one liners as well as provocative, sinister monologues, and it's portrayed in a way so as to not interfere with the overall somber and dark tone of the show. The set and costume designs are equally immaculate, contributing immensely to the show's more suspenseful scenes. So far, there's been a total departure from supernatural elements that were central to the stories of previous seasons, with preference for a more grounded setting focusing on the human psyche. Though pyschology's always played a role in AHS, I think this time they've really done a great job driving it home by letting the events unfold at the hands of regular people instead of spirits, witches and vampires. If you want something that'll get you thinking and chill you to the bone, don't hesitate to get this!!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Must watch series!
*by J***N on August 27, 2017*

American Horror Story continues to be a creative and new experience every season! Sometimes it may fall short of your expectations or might not be what you want it to become. But either way the show continues to be successful, all while entertaining its audience. The show elicits strong performances by multiple actors and lets those who decide to continue onto the next season of this anthology series to embody new roles. I'm very excited to see how this season goes with the "Cult" theme! The series seems to be taking a new approach as we saw last season and this may yet again be a new one. Interesting storylines, terrific characters, and always a great cast. American Horror Story is a must watch for anyone into strange/intriguing anthology series.
