Perfect Answer
This product is excellent in every detail. We bought it for my elderly wife so she would not run the danger of rolling off the bed at night. As it turns out, it serves a double purpose by providing a stable aid that she can grab hold of to get in and out of bed. The unit has provided her a lot of emotional security because she has a history of falling. Finally, the design was well thought through. It is built of sturdy medal and is expandable. It, also, has a special tie that reaches easily across the bed under the mattress to secure the metal frame from slipping out. That eliminates any danger of my wife slipping between the frame and the edge of the mattress. Based on our experience, we give it five stars for anyone else who might need such a safety device.

Excellent bedrails
I bought two bed rails for my 92 yr old parents several months ago. They really like the bed rails because they feel safe in bed now and because they can lean on the bed rails to get in and out of bed which really helps them. They don't extend the rails because (1) they cannot fall out of bed with the rail in the non-extended position, (2) it requires too much strength to slide the rail in and out (WD40 is helpful) and (3) they need the open space to get in and out of bed. I also bought the canvas attachment for magazines, remotes, etc. It is OK but hard to attach because it is a very tight fit, the pockets are restricted, very tight. It does hold a Comcast remote. The mftr needs to make the canvas attachment a half inch larger so it fits easily and so pockets can hold larger items. I put a shoulder bag over one of the bedrails and that works well (see pic). Here's how one person can install the bedrails without removing the mattress. First read the instructions! Important info about where to position the bed rail to prevent injury. 1) Lay the bedrail on the floor by the bed 2) Put the strap through the bedrail 3) Get a yardstick, broom handle, PVC pipe or any long pole type object (a yardstick works best since it's flat) 4) Tape the end of the strap to the end of the yardstick 5) Lift up the corner of the mattress and push the yardstick as far as possible to the other side. 6) Walk to the other side of the bed, lift the corner of the mattress and pull the yardstick to you. 7) Secure the strap to the bed frame

Bought for safety
My elderly husband has fallen out of bed. This guard wasn't easy to install, but it works great.

Secure feel, extend button difficult for arthritic fingers
Dad fell out of bed, says he was sleeping and didn't know what happened. So I bought this rail after getting the patient lift we had ( but never used) to get him off the floor at 4am. He isn't sleeping with it extended because his fingers are deformed from severe arthritis and the button is too difficult for him to push. I wish that they had a lever/tab on the button (like there is on his shower chair button) to provide an aid in pushing the button down so the rail can be extended. I was worried that he wouldn't have enough room to sit on the edge of his bed and still reach the items on his nightstand but he manages. Keep in mind the rail must be at least 12.5" from the headboard to keep the head from get entrapped which could cause a fatal hazard even if the person is not cognitively impared ..as my dad is not..he has mobility and no dementia..but I tried putting the rail closer than 12.5" to the headboard and sticking my head in between the gap and it didn't feel safe even for me. Keep in mind this is STANDARD practice for ANY bed rail and is not specific to this item in particular. I put the rail at the proper 12.5" + inches from the headboard and he was still satisfied about reaching his nightstand. I wish he would extend the rail but even with it un-extended he said he likes it, it is doing its job and he wish he would have gotten the rail sooner. I feel better too knowing at least he won't hit his head on his glass covered nightstand if he does roll out of bed again. Dad is 6'3" 230 lbs. Sturdy device.

Perfect fit & solid
I love the safety of not falling out of bed anymore! This little bed rail is the perfect size for me & makes me feel safe! I live alone & am 100% disabled, I fell out of bed twice so thot I better look to see what Amazon had to offer. Not only was this in my budget but also fit in the small space.. It also works as a bar to help me steady myself to get up! My caregiver along with a male helper had it installed in just a few minutes. It is really solid... With the money & peace of mind to keep yourself or a loved one safe from falling out of bed.. God Bless.. Kathe

Effective and sturdy bed rail
This product is easy to install and very sturdy. As I have PTSD and thrash around at night or try and sleep walk. The rail with the extra length is perfect. It prevents me from falling out of bed or it alerts me to sleep walking by hindering my progress to leave the bed. It stay in place very well as I have bounced off of it pretty hard a few times already and I weigh 233 lbs. You can extended or retract the extra rail easily with the small button on top. But as your motor skills are impaired while sleep walking I have found that I have not bypassed this simple but effective design. And making the bed and changing linen is no problem as its size in the non-extended position and way it fits against the mattress make it easy to work around.

Great product that fit our needs perfectly!
I am so very thankful to have found this Able Life Bedside Extend-a-Rail. I searched and researched and looked at so many different options for my grandma who is in her 90s before deciding on this item. She needed a little help to stabilize her when she got in and out of bed, and also to prevent roll-over falls, but we didn't want to get her a full hospital bed set up or the longer rails. We found that this item was well-priced, and easy to install (it is secured under the mattress so it isn't so intrusive on the bed for her), and it works perfectly for her! She is using it to lift up and down in her bed and at night it adds extra security from falling. One things we did is put a small rectangular pillow against it for added softness and it works great. I am very pleased that this type of item is available and would highly recommend it to anyone who has a similar situation to ours.

Average but okay
There were no instructions on fastening the safety strap; which appears to be too long for a double bed. It just shows the strap going across the bed rail. Therefore it is just hanging under the bed and does not secure the rail in any way. It is only the l-shaped legs that support the rail. The extended section seems a little weaker than the basic part of the frame but is adequate as long as I don't use it to assist me in getting up. I have to close the extension to have proper support. Since mine is not a standard mattress, I have a sleep number bed; it does not have the same support as an inner spring mattress might have to support the rail. I wish there were instructions on securing the rail so I could feel more comfortable about it not sliding out of place. Overall it is acceptable but nothing special or spectacular. It serves to prevent rolling out of bed.

Sturdy, safe, exactly as promised
This was exactly as shown. Although the strap gave me some trouble as the instructions weren't clear enough for me, my mechanic husband figured it out and fixed it for me. I love that it will assist my sister when she's getting in and out of bed,but it will also protect her from falling out as her dementia worsens. Highly recommend

Excelente producto
Quedó perfecto, fácil de instalar y muy seguro. Lo compré para una persona de la tercera edad y ahora tiene un barandal muy estable para poderse apoyar y girarse mientras está acostado y cuando se para de la cama un soporte muy confiable.
