A child with a butter knife could pry open the door. This is NOT a "security" item by any stretch of the imagination, but can still be a reasonable deterrent to walk-by/drive-by thieves. Any reasonably-determined thief could use a pocket knife, pair of pliers, or brute force to open the door or bypass the internal partition with ease. But we still kept this item because of the lack of other good options. It looks pretty decent, and blends in to the house better than the stand-alone units in this price range. **Q: What are the dimensions of the mailbox?** A: The PEELCO Extra Capacity Parcel box is 17x8x30in. **Q: Does the XL version need to be affixed to something? We would rather it be free-standing.** A: It does stand on it’s own when empty, but it is not a thick, steel, heavy box. I think it would tip over if it got full or someone would just walk away with the whole thing. I have it mounted outside on a wall near the regular mailboxes in a commercial building. I also bought a sign that says “package drop” on Amazon so peopke know what it is. It otherwise doesn’t have any markings. **Q: Can it be ordered in white?** A: Hello, thank you for your question.
