I don't think that does justice to the book.I don't think a review is the appropriate place to get into e-book pricing (such as why do some e-books cost more than paperback editions, and so on) so I want to focus on this specific book, Outdoor Emergency Care Fifth Edition.Yes, I do have it in both formats, electronic and paper. And over 1100 pages of reading in the paper format has been hard going; the e-format is much easier. Not to mention that I can SEARCH in the e-format for specific words or phrases, so I can find things that are not indexed. And I can highlight sections and make notes in the e-version. And easily find and go back to those highlighted sections. And I can have it on two devices at once -- say, Kindle for Mac and an Ipad or a kindle device.The CONTENT of the book is much improved from the 4th edition. Yes, this book is a lot to read. But it is more readable and more consistent in style than 4e was. And in almost all areas it brings NSP into better alignment with the current practices in national EMS systems.There are some typos, inconsistencies, and errors in the book that cause me to only give it 4 stars -- for instance in the print version, on page 220 infant respirations are given as 20-30 but on page 221 as 25-50 -- and I hope those will be corrected and a new printing of the book issued soon.Also, if you buy the physical book you get an access code to myNSPkit. As far as I can see, my download didn't come with that code. Not a big deal to me because I have a code from the physical book, but something to keep in mind.PS: I'd love to know where the reviewer was able to find this book for about $45 -- I've seen some sites selling the FOURTH edition for that price, but not the FIFTH edition. Be sure of what you are buying! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outdoor Emergency Care Textbook *by E***K on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 25, 2011* This is a great book, and is incredibly thorough. I'm an EMT as well as an OEC with the National Ski Patrol, and I think this book is as big or bigger than the EMT textbook I went through when I got that certification.That can be a problem too. The book goes into incredible detail about conditions which I, as an OEC on the ski slopes or in the aid room, will not have the ability to diagnose or treat beyond caring for the airway, insuring that the patient is breathing, and making sure that bleeding is controlled and pulse is adequate. Furthermore, the book tends to repeat itself. An excellent example; early in the book, there is a chapter on gross anatomy and physiology. Each chapter then begins with a section on the anatomy and physiology of the area it will be discussing, and essentially repeats the earlier section (frequently using the same pictures).So, final assessment; an excellent medical textbook, but maybe not so well planned, and not so well focused on the population that will be using it? ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ First Impressions *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 21, 2011* As a ski patroller, my first aid training includes the requirement of being up to date within the OEC system. As part of our annual refresher, we had to purchase this 5th edition. Considering the cost to buy this book and taking into account the time it must have taken to produce and publish it, I was extremely upset at the amount of revisions I had to wade through to manually correct my copy of the book once I received it. There was a seven page summary of revisions that I downloaded from the publisher that dealt with typos, inconsistencies, incorrect answers to questions etc. This alone, took me several hours to incorporate into my copy. A friend of mine purchased his copy of the book, directly through Brady and the printing of his copy had included these changes.The book itself, is much more technical and comprehensive than previous versions. With over 1200 pages, there is an awful lot to digest.
