I did hire a pool guy to install it so I cannot speak on that but he did need some kind of adapter to connect to in-ground system. I've got it running 24hrs a day for 2 weeks now with no issues and I can only hear it when I'm right next to the pool house as opposed to the constant HUMMMMM our last two pumps broadcast across the yard. Additionally, when I vacuumed it was probably the best suction ever!
