I did the front the. Flipped it and did the back. **Q: Do you need to purchase a brush for it?** A: Mod Podge does not come with an applicator of any kind. I would recommend using a foam brush. **Q: Can you use this glue only on the front side of the puzzle? And will it hold up to being hung on the wall?** A: In my view, you can indeed use this glue on just one side, which I find preferable to chancing leakage through the puzzle if you flip it backside up for a second coat. As I type this I'm looking at a 1000-piece puzzle that my wife and I completed last month, whereupon I Mod-Podged only the front side and, discovering that it was super secure with one well-spread out coat on the front, hung it on the wall in a 20" x 27" (in dimensions) frame. I used the whole container, doing 1 coat on the front and 2 on the back. The puzzle isn't super stiff but seems like it will hold together for a long time after I hang it on the wall. I used a cheap painters brush which probably wasn't the best idea as some of the bristles got stuck in the glue. Next time I'll try a sponge brush.
