Just like most other folks, I didn't want to crawl under the tree to water it. With this product, I didn't. When we first received the item I didn't have a 2 liter bottle on hand (we don't drink much soda), so I used a 1 liter flavored water bottle in it and it worked just the same, just emptied faster. I was a little worried that the tree stand would overflow at first, but it never did--but water did come within an inch from the top. The bottom of my tree stand is flat, so I was able to leave the waterer flat on the ground and the water flowed fine--no need to raise it up at all to keep the waterer working (it's a part of the directions, you will understand if you buy it). We had our waterer setting off to the side, behind a lamp, so it wasn't so obvious--but I didn't really care that it was as "pretty" as some other models out there. I wanted it to work, and work well, and it did. Review: Does NOT work as advertised - Good in concept, but it makes a huge mess. I've now filled this thing up 4 or 5 times, and it either completely overflows the stand and makes a giant puddle all over our new hardwood floors, or the water level doesn't go down at all. Easier just to fill the stand up with water by hand....would definitely not recommend or purchase again. This morning I woke up to a huge puddle on the floor. I was very careful about following the instructions, but I was wary when I read other reviews saying this. Unfortunately, it's not the greatest reliability. I will try it again though because I really like the idea of not watering my tree all the time.
