Slumit CUB 2 Instant Tent 2 Man Waterproof Double Layer FlashFrame Quick Pitch Tent and Pack System : desertcart.co.uk: Sports & Outdoors

Review: Good idea by a company that cares about its products. - UPDATE: My original review has been left in brief below, but I have since had the updated version of this tent which corrected the biggest problem Slumit tents had... they used to let midges in! Lol. Thankfully the company listen to their customers and have released an improved version of this tent which is now 100% midge-proof. My experience of Slumit is that they are a small English company who genuinely do care about their product and customers being happy with their purchase. This is rare these days, so definitely something I value! This tent is now great for quick and easy camping trips. I use it when I'm away on my motorcycle touring, and the joy of just throwing up the tent and pegging it down is a relief after a long day riding around. As I reviewed before, there are a couple things related to the door that are still not perfect, but it's just part of the deal with these flash frame tents due to construction limitations. The first thing is I still struggle to zip the door all the way down. I'd need to get hunkered down on my elbows in the porch to do that, and I don't care enough about my door not being fully closed to put that much effort in LOL. The second thing is I still get a little water inside the tent from the door if its wet outside. If the outer door is fully unzipped, it will hang inside the inner tent.... so water droplets will congregate and probably dribble inside. It's just a thing you become aware of and try to avoid (can leave it zipped a few inches for example). I try to fling the door away down the side of the outer tent, to direct any droplets pooling that way.... It's usually just falls back down again lol. I'll maybe try using a wee peg or add velcro to help keep the door off to the side. Not a big deal and I'll manage to sort a door hooker-to-the-sider myself. Apart from that, the tent is very good and very convenient. It has ample pockets for wee bits inside, and an extremely useful hammock in the middle of the sleeping area. This is great for sitting my phone with the screen facing down, then I can watch a film while still being able to see my screen ok through the mesh. The tent bag is a great size to pop it back into. Most tent bags can be a struggle! Not this one. It has compression straps too, so you can tighten it all up a bit. The tent isn't for really high winds, I believe it has been tested to gusts of 25mph (which is still pretty windy!). You can buy additional straps that support the legs called the Slumit Extra Guy Support Kit, and this should easily improve the stability of the Cub2 to handle much stronger winds. Paired together, this makes it a very capable wee tent! I have these straps but yet to test in strong winds. I'm 5 foot 5 and I manage to put this tent up no bother. I think I'd managed the 3 man tent ok too. First time I tried to put the tent up, it was a mini challenge haha, but after a couple goes it becomes quite easy. There are vents on the side of the tent that don't have to be guy roped down. If you feel inside is a bit airy, then don't guy these vents, and velcro them down a bit, and it'll with an excessive draught. Great to have extra air flow on a hot day though! Also, the cover that goes over the flash frame up top is optional. There are no parts that will deteriorate if it's not on, so if you can't be bothered sticking it on, that's ok! lol. *My ORIGINAL REVIEW in brief: I love how easily it can be set up and packed away. The bag is very easy to put the tent back into, which is nice. I won't repeat how convenient the tent is, cause like everyone else has said, it really is handy! It's not the cheapest tent and there are areas the let the tent down... 1) This tent does not stop midges getting in. 2) If the outer skin is wet with rain or condensation, it's almost impossible to leave the tent without you or your gear in the porch getting wet from the door. 2b) I really struggle to get the outside tent door zipped right the way down. 3) The vents are pretty draughty. There are 2 opposing, large vents on the inner tent. These have matching triangle vents that pull out with a guy rope on the outer tent.
Review: Great Bang For Your Buck! - I own the 2023 Cub 2. Very decent size double skin tent, extremely rainproof and sheltering while packing down neatly, though well able to fit a 6ft 3in (191cm) sleeping pad (or two). Boasts a 4000 HH flysheet and truly impressive thick 10,000 HH sewn in groundsheet, unlike the thin, uninspiring type some tents palm you off with. Also UV protected. In short, built to withstand some of the worst of UK weather, and with fitted solid poles and joints that don't splinter or snap easily like standard elasticated fibreglass ones can. Goes up in a flash too, most convenient in bad weather or when you're just too tired for the usual assembling and pole sleeving challenges. Great camouflage colour too if wild camping, with a useful little letterbox-style front window, fine micro anti-mosquito netting, and two effective side vents for cool air flow and to help prevent condensation in the sleeping area - which was not a problem. Has useful inner pockets too and a roof lantern hook and overhead storage net. And last but not least, the customer service is second to none. It should be further noted that the tent is cleverly designed in three separate interlocking but independently detachable parts: frame, inner tent, and flysheet, so if a part gets damaged when in use, the individual part can be unclipped and changed out. Reassuring to know if I have a problem I can send a picture to help try to isolate any problem to one component, then easily replaced if still under warranty (you need to register if you want 3 year frame cover). Their support email also advises after warranty expiry replacement parts can still be bought from them in the UK, prolonging the tent lifespan. Most helpful and responsible company to deal with, always looking to optimize their products. Highly recommended. And a British company too. Update Jan '25: I have been living out in this tent for months in extremely high winds, driving rain, and sub-zero temperatures and it has held up admirably with no leaks or damage, no separate tarp needed as with a 2-season tent in cold weather. It helps to support the poles with the fitted guy lines in the way suggested by the company guide, plus use a second set of reasonably priced guys sold separately by them to enhance the support of the first. This way you have an amazingly robust tent that is incredible value for money, and which, if looked after properly, should last. A further tip would be to get tarp clips (pretty cheap from desertcart) whatever tent you use, as these create all the bottom-of-flysheet loops you could need to ensure your inner and outer tents remain separate and mildew-free in addition to stabilizing your tent further. They're a very useful addition to anyone's camping kit.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Best Tent so far....
*by F***D on 22 June 2018*

So, as a keen camping enthusiast I have found myself trying many different tents over the years, but the CUB2 definitely comes out on top (especially for ease of use, quick setup, and size). The tent itself, when packed away is a good practical size for my motorbike pillion seat, and at a weight of just 3.5 kg, you hardly notice it on the bike. The specification of the tent is comfortable, practical and incredibly easy to pitch. As a motorcyclist you experience a lot of fatigue from long distance riding, and its nice to know that within one minute of parking the bike, the tent is already pitched, and instantly protecting me from the elements. The tent is double skinned, with multi-pockets on the inside, has a generous porch area, has a lantern hook, and even a roof shelf. But the main thing that attracts me to this particular company, is their patented FLASHFRAME technology. This basically is a system that allows you to take the tent out of the bag, unfold the legs and lift up the centre and click the two sections together, allowing the frame to expand and lock in to place. It is literally pitched in ten seconds, once it s out the bag and on the floor, you just lift up and connect and lock. I was so impressed by the simplicity of this system, that after purchasing this model a couple years ago, I made a video and posted it to YouTube, solely to demonstrate its speed and simplicity to erect. I have now got my hands on this newer CUB2, which has been tweaked and upgraded. The tent is more than just a novelty, it will comfortably hold 2 people and basic luggage, or one person and their entire months camping arsenal. The outer rain fly is a very reassuring 3000 MMHH, which means you won't have to worry about rain making its way in through most of the seasons. The floor is also a bathtub style groundsheet, so protects you even in long wet grass. Although this tent is very stable with the guy ropes attached, I now also have the extra guy support kit and peg set, which they claim will offer even more support in higher winds. It is probably not needed for normal conditions, but I would happily ride out a storm in the Scottish mountains with this tent. I hope you found this review helpful, and next month the CUB2 will be coming to Scotland with me. So jump over to my YouTube channel (motorbikeway), and see the tent in action. Happy camping!"
