The up/down crank works excellent, smooth with good metal grind on the gear teeth. Liked this so much gave away my other tripod for camera/ laser level use. If this is a negative, is one, this sadly does not come with a carry case or bag. Also, no instructions included either. But this is pretty self-explanatory. Thanks Bosch for a wonderful tripod. Measuring up from the center of that circle to the top of the mounting plate on the tripod, maximum extension was 9'-6" and minimum retraction was 3'-6". It does work for the light but those batteries are heavy.
