**Q: does this read in Kg too ?**
A: Yes you can switch between lbs and kg, the instructions are different based on the version of firmware. See the Mfg site, There are severail different manuals, version, 3.0, 2.1, 2.0, and 1.0 you will need to see the differences in the instructions to switch between Lbs, and Kg. http://www.awscales.com/component/content/article/53-aws-products/158-sr-5-digital-hanging-scale

**Q: Has AWS modified the SR-5 so the hold feature can be disabled?**
A: According to a comment on a review below you can disable the hold feature. Open the battery compartment and there is an on/off switch. Flip the switch and it disables the hold function. Hope that helps, but I did not give the answer..sara pap did.

**Q: Does this stop weighing after a few seconds, meaning can't add more it to get a certain weight?**
A: The SR-5 Digital Hanging Scale features two operating modes: Basic and Advanced. To change the operating mode, flip the toggle switch inside the battery compartment up or down. In Basic Mode, the weight locks on the display when stable and the scale turns off after 60 seconds of inactivity. In Advanced Mode, the weight does not lock when stable and the scale will remain on until powered off manually

**Q: does this scale read in 1g increments?**
A: I believe this one reads out increments of 5g.  It has a 5kilo capacity.  I have another model, the grey one, with a lower total capacity, 1kilo and it reads out in 1g increments.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The useless HOLD feature, The Voyage Home.

THE VOYAGE HOME: I sent email to the company, Georgia-based American Weigh Scales. Apparently they have revised this scale since I purchased my copy and the switch inside the battery compartment does indeed turn off the HOLD feature if you would like to see a continuous readout. A very helpful account manager named Kevin agreed to replace my old scale with the new version. Now I have a useful scale. Thanks Kevin! Latest product manual is here (v3.0): www[dot]awscales[dot]com/hanging-scales/159-sr-20-digital-hanging-scale PART 3: I can hardly believe that I have to do this AGAIN! I must revise my review. The suggestion by SaraPap worked for quite a long time, my scale appeared to be reborn. I flipped the switch inside the battery compartment and the hold feature was defeated. But recently, when the batteries died and I replaced with fresh cells, the hold feature returned. At that time I was reminded of the true purpose for the little black switch inside the battery compartment-CALIBRATION. Switch "up", power "on" and the scale enters calibration mode. See your manual, or this page: www[dot]americanweigh[dot]com/images/PDF/SR-Series_manual[dot]pdf Switch "down" power "on" and the scale is in weighing mode, with the useless HOLD feature! I fiddled endlessly, now the HOLD feature will not go away! Furthermore, the manual states that this model, the SR-5, calibrates with a 1kg weight (not included). But, when I put the switch "up" and enter calibration mode, my scale asks for a 5kg calibration weight! Odd, since 5kg is the max capacity of the scale. Excess load on these sensors is likely to cause damage, so I was not in a hurry to hang 5kg of chickpeas on my scale, but after endless fiddling I saw no other choice. Eventually I calibrated the scale, and it seems to work fine, but that is all very odd. And, the useless HOLD feature is back. Maybe Harry Potter moved in next door. I am baffled. I should not have deleted the original review. (PART 1) As long as this scale has the HOLD feature permanently enabled, it is USELESS. You will likely get a different result every time you weigh the same object, unless you pay infinite attention, and resort to double and triple-checking every time. If the object takes a little fiddling to get it on the hook, you will likely find that the HOLD feature locks onto a weight before you even have the entire load suspended. I learned to carefully get a few weights, and then zero the scale, REMOVE the load and observe the NEGATIVE weight displayed, and somehow do an average to get a ballpark figure. GOOD LUCK! PART 2: I am revising my review based on a smart comment by sara pap, see below. Now I really like this scale! There IS a way to defeat the HOLD function! Excellent! Thanks a ton, sara pap! I have deleted all of my previous commentary so that no mistake can be made by future amazon shoppers. For the record, I could not figure out how to defeat the HOLD function. I contacted the manufacturer, and they didn't know either. Strange, the manufacturer was apparently not aware of the secret button. This is a great product. It's been reborn! Highly recommend!
