But I do have black steel rims. I will say they do a great job. I frequently pull a pop up camper with my crown vic. Stops very nicely! Also ive had these installed for two years and have noticed they are very quiet. No squeaking at all. I asked my mechanic, shopped all the internet sites, read all the stuff, and checked Crown Vic net.After a month I chose the Centric Cyro slots from Amazon. BIG MISTAKE! The cyros are special order and after another month Amazon just said, gee you must be frustrated but we can't get them ... goodbye. I checked some other places and they said they had them on the shelf, or could get them from their supplier, but the guy at Centric said they hadn't had any in the oven and the vendor finally said they didn't really have them. Then the Centric rep said the cyros weren't that great anyway (after he said they were the ONLY way to go a month before), so it cost me $20 to send the pads back, but I figure it was money well spent in the long run!Then I looked around again and found Raybestos has pads and rotors made SPECIAL for the police duty. I think the pads are metallic for heavy stopping (I also tow a trailer occasionally) and the rotors are supposed to be thicker to keep them from getting too hot, etcetera, and they have a special fin configuration to keep them cool. Also found a bunch of Raybestos videos on the subject, meaning they really do supply the police at least someplace!It was basically plug and play, everything fit and went together easily. Not sure what the torque was on the front caliper bolts so I just used the big breaker bar and then made sure they were torqued to at least 100 ft lbs. I bled the system at the same time, get two quarts of fluid to do this right if your fluid is black. Passenger rear, driver rear, passenger front, driver front. I did each wheel as I installed the rotors and pads and I used one of those cheap little plastic jars with the magnetic clip and the hose that goes on the bleeder to flush the system by myself. Five to seven pumps to fill the bottle, but it worked. If I had it to do again I might consider the loader calipers too, just for grins. Wanted to do some braided hoses but couldn't find them. If your brakes are worn like mine were get a couple jugs of that wheel cleaner too, my wheels were loaded with old brake dust.I did the break in like Raybestos recommends. I chose a stretch of highway where I thought I could go for a ways and not have to stop and then went AFTER rush hour. Jumping off the highway at 80 (well almost) and slowing to 20 mph on the shoulder next to the cement median wasn't too bad ... once the rain stopped!!! Seems to have worked okay, the brakes are smooth even after being forced to drive through foot deep water a week later!These are the parts I used, but always double check the Raybestos site first.
