Review: B - Rather than writing a detailed review of this StarTech 22U rack, I will simply list my comments as they come to mind. ZERO ISSUES : with respect to assembly. Tolerances are close to Mil-spec. Not a single hole that didn't line up. Not a single missing pieces of hardware. Documentation is detailed and easy to follow. Take your time. FLAWELESS: Material is VERY strong. You get what you pay for. When comparing similar server cabinents for less money, pay attention to the weight capacity. StarTech exceeds 1000 pounds while other popular brands (with red stripe doors) don't even reach 200 pounds! My application will be a home server that will also include amateur (ham radio) equipment, a full size Desktop PC, a TripLite UPS, routers, etc. Very very pleased with the packaging, the quality, the design, the appearance and the value. Bottom Line: Do it right the first time. GO STAR-TECH!
Review: Quality Server Rack build to last - I was very pleased when my Server Rack arrived, as it exceeded my expectations. The rack is solid and relatively easy to put together. My rack mount servers fit in perfectly without any issues or special adjustments to the rack. I did have a few minor issues with installation, and hopefully these stories will help someone: First, the phillips screwdriver provided (I didn't even realize it came with one, so bonus) was more of a sharp tip instead of a stubby tip; this meant my personal screwdrivers worked better for most of the screws used in installation. Second, the bottom tray pieces were extremely difficult put in, as those particular holes were not pre-threaded. This meant forcing the screws to thread metal. Additionally, I had to move the rack-stand bars out of the way to ensure I could get enough force on them. Third, the top cover panel didn't quite screw down properly all around; one corner was always off. I ended up taking a Dremel to one of the screw holes on the rear side, opening it up enough for the screw to fit properly. I believe at most it was 1/8" I ended up grinding off. Fortunately, the screw covers it up, so it's not even visible. Lastly, There was a small plastic protection film on the key-turn portion of the lock (just the little circle). At first I thought it was just some brushed blue metal to give it a neat look, but I started scraping it off after using it. I prefer to remove all the protective plastic once I get an item in place - this one however required me to disassemble the lock to adequately remove the sealant. This was because the seal covered the sides of the lock as well, which were covered by the handle. This wasn't overly difficult to do, but someone unfamiliar with basic locks might have some difficulty removing this. If you read all of that, it sounds like I ran into a lot of problems - but realistically they were all very easy to solve and didn't detract from the overall quality of the server rack. After minor installation hiccups everything is working great and my servers are happy to be finally sitting in a rack where they belong.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the width of this actual width of the interior rack for mounting servers in this rack? will my hp proliant dl 360 g6 fit in this?**
A: This is not a traditional rack and there is too much margin for error to give you an accurate width measurement based on how it is assembled. My suggestion is if the width of your server falls within 2-3 inches of the published width get the larger size. If you want some sort of warranty that your server will fit contact one of the amazon re-sellers. We always give our servers and back-ups a lot of room either in a box or rack.

**Q: Does this rack come pre built or do we have to build it**
A: The RK2236BKF comes flat-packed and requires assembly.

Matt, StarTech.com Support

**Q: The 22U with the Glass door (the default item) says it's 36 inches in the title but only 29 inches in the description. Which is it?**
A: Hello, I do not have the one model with a glass front, mine has the screen front but, I'm sure it is similar, 29in would be max rack mounting inside depth and 36 in would be more of the outside depth. These cabinets are very nice and I like mine a lot and they are very roomy between the rack equipment and the enclosure for cables, plugs, and controls that would stick out from the gear.

**Q: does it have fans in the top and if not why are there mounting holes in the top???**
A: No fans installed. Mounting holes are available to add your own.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I agree. Good product. Horrible packaging
*by S***7 on May 13, 2013*

When my shippment arrived the box was literally falling apart with gaping holes in it. I was amazed that none of the parts were missing. I question whether I recieved a package that was previously shipped and returned. One of the corners of the cabinet door was damaged with a slight bend. But I was able to bend it back to the point that it was pretty much unnoticeable. I purchased it for work and needed to install it right away so I decided to keep it rather than going through the trouble shipping it back and ordering another unit. I am very satisfied with the construction and sturdiness. My only complaint is that the door locks are plastic and a little on the cheap side. The finish seems solid as well. There were no significant scratches or marks which is a miracle considering most of the parts weren't wrapped and the parts were totally loose and moving around inside the packaging. The assembly was straight forward. All the parts fit together well. It came with the required tools (aside from screw drivers) but I used a cordless drill and had the appropriate torx bits which made it a bit easier and faster. I should also mention that I purchased the knock-down rack because I needed to assemble it in a tight server closet with a door that is too narrow to fit a pre-assembled rack cabinet. I assembled most of the cabinet outside the closet and then did the final assembly inside the closet with limited space. Worked like a charm....
