I absolutely love this Kindle, it’s the perfect size not too big and not too small, I love home compact it is! I love how easy the setting is to navigate and how easy it is to adjust to my liking! My only complaint and thing i was disappointed with was the kindle is very slow, its takes a while for things to load! Other than that it’s awesome, I can download many different books to read over the span of time. The battery life last for quite a while when you are just reading, but if you are browsing so dealing with settings I noticed it tended to die a bit quicker. On a positive note it’s really easy to hold on to and easy bring along with everywhere!

Absolutely love this device I chose the basic over the paperwhite for a couple reasons 1. I dont need it waterproof I dont read around water 2. The extra light effects the paperwhite has I didnt need since I like to read in black and white mode anyway. 3. I like the smaller model because it fits better in my hands and its so light. I actually thought it was going to be smaller, so im happy with what I received. 4. I dont need the extra like 6 weeks of battery life. This thing already has 6 weeks of battery life itself. I received it last month haven't charged it once and its at 40% and I read for 1-2 hrs a night. 4. The price is way better than the paperwhite. My review, if you read by water, have messy kids, read in the bath, want to pay extra then get the paperwhite. But if you want just a nice relaxing read at night with no fuss and just relaxation get this one.

This is my 5th Kindle and I love it. I had the original scroll wheel Kindle, then the 1st gen Kindle Touch, the 1st gen Paperwhite, the10th gen Paperwhite, and now the 11th gen basic Kindle with no locked screen ads. I grew to hate the ads with their stupid blurbs. Never had an ad that appealed to me or led to a book purchase. Plus, I always considered swiping to open the Kindle to a stupid waste of time. It is there to keep the ad in your face a little longer. The Kindle Touch had ads on its locked screen, but there was no swipe to open, it went straight to where I had left off just like my new Kindle. Now this new Kindle with no ads opens instantly to the last page read in the book. When it is turned off the screen shows wonderful images: fountain pen caps, dip pen and ink bottle, pencil points, etc. Very artistic. The screen size is identical to my 11th gen Paperwhite., the body a lot thinner, a little narrower and a little taller. And lighter. This basic Kindle has a tiny bezel. I made touching mistakes with the totally flat Paperwhite bezel when a finger would wonder onto the screen. Almost the whole surface of the case has a lovely satin finish. The "Kindle" name on the front is shiny and the Amazon Arrow on the back is recessed and shiny. I made the mistake of ordering the fabric case after I had ordered the Kindle, and it came 5 days later. I did. not take it anywhere until the case came. I consider the case to be necessary to protect the Kindle when carrying around and it reduces the tendency to slide off surfaces. Also keeps the screen cleaner. Love this fabric case. My mistake with my first Kindle Paperwhite was buying a cheap case to save money. It was imitation leather and a good case until the cheap leatherette surface started flaking off. The cover also warped over time, though that was more cosmetic than a problem. By the time I wanted a new case, Amazon had none to fit it anymore. I learned my lesson and bought Amazon's fabric case with my second Paperwhite and with this new Kindle. The first fabric case looks as good after 4 years of heavy use as it did new. While this Kindle is very lightweight, it has no "cheap" feeling at all. Thinner than all the others. Turning on, downloading. books, searching, opening the dictionary are all much faster than the 11th Paperwhite ever was (it seems to have gotten slower and very quirky this past year. A number of times when I opened the dictionary it froze requiring a restart. Other times it froze and had to be restarted). Not being waterproof is not a problem as I don't read in the rain, near pools, nor the surf. The slight step up from the screen to the bezel does not prevent me from using my remote page turner. The new Kindle came with the battery charged to 50% and lasted most of a week before it dropped to 30%. I charged it to 73% some days ago and, after heavy use it is only down to 69%. I keep the backlight at level 1, which is sufficient for reading in the dark. I have never had any need to have the backlight higher than level 4 on my 2 Paperwhite Kindles used heavily over the past 12 years. Unlike my other Kindles I have kept this one connected to WiFi all the time. I recommend this Kindle for anyone who wants a conveniently portable Kindle that fits in coat pockets and takes up little room in a purse or bag. Buying it at the start of Amazon's Black Friday sale saved me the price difference of not irritating lock screen ads. PLUS I DON'T HAVE TO SWIPE TO OPEN ANY MORE!! This new version is the best! I was surprised at how small it is, but it’s so lightweight and compact. it’s a pleasure to read with it. Page turning is much faster. The matcha color is beautiful. The one complaint I have is sometimes I have to press really hard on the screen to return to Home or the Library. Also, sometime tapping the screen to turn the page flips ahead several pages. The price is great, and my purchase came with 3 months of fee Kindle Unlimited. I’ma very happy reader! highly recommend this product.

So I've been a Kindle reader for more than two decades -- solidly in love with these little creatures. Most recently I TOTALLY FILLED my 2011 Kindle Touch, and its battery was no longer holding a charge like it used to, so I decided it was time to buy my third Kindle. I've had it about a month now, and the learning curve was real. The set-up, etc. is different from my (very old) Kindle; this is not good or bad -- just saying, I wouldn't get this new Kindle and expect to be "up and running" immediately. I strongly recommend you pick up a sticker from Decal Girl to give your Kindle a personality and a name. My third Kindle's called Button. I spent significant time researching what I personally really wanted /needed, and I decided that -- in addition to basic Kindle services -- I wanted small size, large storage and a lighted background. I don't need color or waterproofing. It came down to this Kindle or the Paperwhite. I'm not sure I chose right. First, the things I love: First, the things I've loved about all my Kindles: I can hold over 2500 books in my hand -- no need to own /dust bookshelves. I can take ALL my books on vacation (or just to the dealership while my car's being serviced). And my books do not turn yellow with age. The lighted background is fantastic -- it's something I've wanted for a long time, and it does not disappoint -- on our last vacation, my bedside light was poorly placed /made reading hard -- that's not a problem anymore. And I can read while my husband watches football /he doesn't complain that my light makes a glare on the TV. The light is adjustable. Yes, the backlit Kindle is WONDERFUL! I use the touch-dictionary pretty often, and I love that this Kindle "saves up" the words I've checked, and I can quiz myself with flashcards through the Vocabulary Builder feature. I like the option to use black pages /white lettering or to change the font. Things I don't love: The biggest thing is that the "sidebars" are too narrow -- and I have small hands -- I hold mine by its sides, and I often accidentally touch the screen without meaning to, prompting the machine forward or back accidentally. I'm thinking of adding a PopSocket to the back -- maybe that'll help. I think the slightly-larger PaperWhite might be better in this regard. It's also incredibly thin -- it feels insubstantial in my hands. It's slower to turn on than my old Kindle -- I must push the button at the bottom, and for a few seconds it says "Waking up", then I have to swipe to open it. True, we're talking about a few seconds, but I don't love that. The battery does not last as long as my old Kindle Touch -- but I feel sure that's about the lighting, and I'm very willing to plug in more often for that. Overall, I'm very pleased with my Kindle, but I do wonder if I would've been happier with the slightly-larger Paper White.

I'm married to this thing now. I love the design, the color, the portability, the layout of the software, and the battery lasts weeks for me. It also has day and night settings for the screen so you can have the perfect brightness for your habits. I like to read in bed, so the size is very comfortable for me.

I was surprised by how much more this thing made me want to read! The reading experience was great. It felt like a book when I turned the pages, but without the discomfort of a regular book. It can get pretty dim in a room without light, just enough not to make my eyes hurt. It looks sleek and small, which is a huge plus for me, as I can fit it in my pocket. It's so light but seems pretty durable. Functionality-wise, it was much quicker than I expected. It also has an incredible battery life and seems like a super stable product. I also love that with Kindle you get a discount on all the books you buy. If you read a lot, it saves time and money.
