In the timeline, this movie is put between the two of them, so all of the things you see in it that seem to be references to one or the other (weapons, the rescued pod from the Nostromo, etc.) all fit perfectly where they are placed. I thought this was fantastic how things were setup and the execution of this movie is near perfect. Was it the best movie ever? Not exactly, but it is pretty fantastic for what it is. I saw it in the theater first and have watched it a couple of times at home (4k Steelbook is amazing pickup!), and the more I have watched, the more of the nuances I begin to see. The feeling it evokes is similar to the first two, but seemingly what is missing from the other Alien movies.
