Microsoft Surface Laptop (Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 128GB) - Platinum

I bought this laptop for college and I think I made a good choice. It's really lightweight so it won't be too heavy carrying it around. It has a touchscreen which is helpful for zooming in. The screen is also more vertical than other laptops so it seems bigger. At first I was iffy about the alcantara but it actually looks quite nice in person. The only thing is that the keys are heavier than I thought they would be. I prefer lighter keys because they help me type faster, but I've already gotten used to these ones. I would recommend getting the silver color because you can always add laptop skins (and the grey alcantara will match with more skins than the blue or burgundy).

I was searching online and on amazon for a reasonably priced, light weight, high quality laptop for school. When I came across this laptop I read through reviews and saw most of them were great! It arrived in a timely manner and I absolutely love it! It has been great so far, very happy with my purchase :) I would definitely recommend it to everyone who’s looking.

I love this lap top! Easy to use, sleek design, facial recognition works quick and never gives me any trouble. The price is well worth it! The touch screen is a nice touch.

I have had this laptop only a few days. I bought this mostly for work as I use Microsoft office quite often. I absolutely LOVE it. My old one was an Asus Chromebook. I'll never go back!

I've been a Mac User for more than 15 years. The price convinced y to try a Surface. Works beautifully, reacts promptly, amazing touch screen, wakes up fast and it is very light. The keyboard is backlit so you can work in the dark and the touch pad is a smooth as Apple's. However, unlike Apple, Microsoft is aggressively pushing its own products. The browser Edge works nicely and you can select which search engine the can use. (The default search engine is Bing.) The AI helper Cortana uses only Bing. At this moment Cortana is less impressive than Google's Assistant. It is still very useful. Microsoft is also offering a competitive cloud cloud subscription. At my job I have to use Google cloud products (Drive, Sheets, Documents). Also I have an Android Phone and Google Photo helps me sync my photo collection. These products don't work as smoothly on the Surface. At this moment you cannot even install the Chrome browser on Surface. (I read that Chrome is more energy consuming than Edge and can shorten the battery life.) I do not need Microsoft cloud service since I already use two platform independent services Google Drive and Dropbox. I don't need all the facilities of Office 363 (the new Microsoft Office) since I can live very well with what Google is offering freely. I don't know yet how Dropbox works with Surface. Given the current deliberate incompatibility with the Google products I need I gave Surface only four stars. If Microsoft fixes this I will upgrade my rating to five stars and switch to Surface.T hen again, I hear that Apple will present this Fall the new generation of Mac Book Air.

I got the platinum version, and I won’t lie I thought the alcantara was dirty when it just came. Came to realize that the material does play tricks on your eyes causing you to think it’s dirty when it’s not. Alcantara is a really unique touch but it gets dirty really fast, especially with oils/sweaty palms. Hard to clean, especially with that special illusion it’s little trickery. You’ll be there wiping it off for hours. Cleaning isn’t as difficult if you use a cotton ball soaked in alcohol.

The laptop I received had some technical issues but it was promptly replaced. My grandson uses this for his online Zoom college classes and could not be happier with it. The touch screen is a huge plus and the weight & size are perfect to transport to and from class. I highly recommend Micro Direct Deals for your laptop needs.

The only reason to hesitate on buying this laptop is if you know you're a disgusting person (self-awareness is key!) who will grease up the Alcantara pad. However, if you're relatively clean, this is the laptop to get. The price fluctuates, so that will be your judgement. I got it for a grand (i5), and it feels like a steal. I can't imagine getting something this nice for the same price elsewhere. If you've owned a Surface product, you know that durability isn't an issue. I'm not at all paranoid about this laptop like I was with my previous ultrabooks. So glad to see reliable Windows based hardware in the marketplace! Keyboard is fantastic, touchpad is Precision (as expected from a Microsoft product), and the 3:2 screen ratio is a miracle for websites and documents, and while media might have more prominent black bars, the amazing display makes up for it. Bright and vivid! The sound from it is as good as it can be, especially with Dolby enabled in sound settings. It won't impress an audiophile, but then again, what will? It performs surprisingly well & is pleasant for listening to music in the background. Highly recommended

Overall a nice laptop, but letter i on the keyboard broke about 3 months after I bought it. Then randomly, at the 18-month mark, the SSD gave up on me. Not impressed given how much I spent on this machine and how long it lasted. I thought Surface laptops were supposed to be great - this is the 1st time this has happened with any laptop I've had before (other brands). Not a happy camper here :(
