In practice, there is so many feet that this isn't a huge issue but when I see the feet starting to dig in to the soil under the tent it does concern me that I might cause a hole or weakness in the floor of my tent. That said, I've used many cots and this is far and away the best so it earns its 5 stars. A sleeping mat fits exceptionally well on it, with room to spare. I'm sure an XL sized sleeping mat would probably be well suited on top of this cot as well. The little hair tie looking things that come on it are probably useless. I removed them and just put the legs in the sack as is. It works great. I find the lever mechanism to stretch the cot to be intuitive and easy to use, but my wife seems to think it takes a lot of strength. I suspect there's something wrong with her technique because I find it very easy myself. I didn't have time to look into why on our last trip, I just happily set it up for her.
