They would take them out of their mouth and chew on the handle part. My baby is used to sucking, so trying to bite on something they don't have teeth for is kinda redundant. Your baby has to have the capability to "bite down" (or gum down without sucking) to keep this in their mouth. The idea is there, but the functionality is absent. Maybe this is more appropriate for a larger toddler as the pacifier itself is large. (Think of a retainer).
