It's meant to train you to pull your shoulders back and stop hunching over. If it pulls under your armpit, that's because it's either too tight or you're hunching over. When I adjust it and I pull my shoulders back, there is room for my fingers to run under the straps. It works. I wear it 15-20 minutes at a time, 4-5 times per day, especially when I do tasks where I hunch over a lot. Overtime, it's building muscle memory, so even when I don't wear it, I'm more inclined to pull my shoulders back after only a few days of wearing it. That being said, North Americans are taller than Chinese people. My husband has wider shoulders than mine and there isn't a whole lot of velcro left to wrap around the loops, so I'll have to buy some additional velcro bands for him. The manufacturer would be smart to make XL size with longer bands.
