Awesome for Old School Atari 2600/7800 Cartridges!!
*Note* This will not play from a SD card or flash memory* This console is great! It plays almost all of the old Atari 2600 and 7800 cartridges. There are firmware updates available that make it more compatible. It comes with a NES style 2-button controller, and the D pad has a removable mini-stick. It easily connects to a modern HDMI TV port (or computer monitor if you like) and looks great. It outputs video in 720P, but obviously, 1980's games were less than 480P. It comes packaged nicely with a plastic cover that I keep on it to keep dust out of the cartridge port.

Worth the upgrade/purchase
First off, I have the Atari 2600+ purchased directly from Atari's website. I loved it, and installed the firmware updates as they rolled out (I'm a nerd, so it wasn't difficult for me. It wasn't user friendly for those not comfortable with that type of stuff). Now, the Atari 7800. This is honestly a bit of a different beast. I am not sure about the internals used, but it has been upgraded from the 2600+ hardware/chipset. The build quality is on par with the 2600+, and even reminds me of the plastic in the original 7800 (in my collection). Carts are obviously supported, and do not load instantly. This is due to the hardware not being orignal hardware, but based on emulation (both emulator programs are listed on the website). Loads can be a few seconds, but that is fine and you will get accustomed to it after a little while. Updating is really easy now. AtariAge.com has a tutorial, and the new firmware upgrade tool is very user friendly. Highly recommend checking in on the updates from time to time to help with any issues that rise as you play your games. These updates also add functionality that the community has been asking for. One such is the use of the 12 key touch pad that was required to play a game titled "Star Raiders". This is not in the 2600+ as of the time of this review. The pack in game is from a legendary homebrew developer and created a title that is mind boggling fantastic, and isn't some cake walk platformer. Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest is a polished experience that works on the 7800+, AND the original hardware. A testament to what the 7800 could have accomplished 40 years ago. My ONLY complaint is the included control pad. It isn't bad. It's weird. Atari didn't do the first control pad. They tried to do their own thing way back then. You can't hold this thing like it is an NES control pad. No. You hold the left side like normal, but the 1 & 2 buttons you hold with your pointer and middle finger resting on the top in the grooves with your thumb underneath that side for support. That is my method for comfort and functionality. This is due to the buttons are further to the middle, and a gap between them that isn't easy to go between the two buttons. This is more or less an issue in games like Bentley Bear where running + jumping isn't as simple as it is in Super Mario Bros on the NES. In closing, bust out the cotton swabs, isopropyl alcohol, and clean them old 2600 and 7800 cartridges because.... Have you played Atari Today?

Time warp of 45 years
Never really had an Atari 2600. Dad bought me an Intellivision and I got a Colecovision later on my own. Don't even remember the 7800. Liked the nostalgia so I had my wife get me this for Xmas (actually she bought me the 2600+, but it was pokey and had a wired controller so we returned it and bought this). Not too much here. Pretty much a simple emulator setup that draws the programs off old cartridges. Most 2600 games are crap, but there are a handful of good ones (Yars Revenge, Pitfall, Adventure, etc.). This runs most of them. Old cartridges will almost certainly need contacts cleaned before use. Some games refuse to run at all. Not sure if it's the game or the contacts, I'll keep trying. The wireless game pad seems good at first, but eventually falls on it's face. The feel of the pad is wonky and the buttons are mapped weird (for some reason the left button is the first you'd use, doesn't work). The wireless cx40 is AMAZING!!! Got two of them, plan on returning one of the gamepads. You're stuck using the gamepads with games that require multiple buttons. 7800 games are a nice surprise. Bounty Bob SB looks cheezy, but the game is a LOT of fun and really challenges you. Frenzy is good. Space Duel is great, but you can't co-op on ships like the arcade. Bentley Bear's CQ is okay. Controlling with the gamepads is a chore and this ain't no Mario game. But it kind of grows on you. Been trolling eBay to pickup more games. Grabbed some old 2600 games and 7800 Food Fight (never played that in the arcade, but it's pretty fun). If you were born after 1985 you likely won't be intrigued with this system. But for the rest of us GenX'ers this is a fun way to relive old gaming and a cheap price.

A fun, well built blast from the past... with HDMI output and wireless controller!
I still own my original Atari 7800 from back in the 80s, but decided to give the Atari 7800+ a try since it has HDMI output, making it much easier to hook up to a modern television or monitor. While smaller than the original console, it feels well built and solid. The wireless controller works great and I do not notice any lag. All of my original 2600 and 7800 cartridges play on the new console and I also picked up some of Atari's new offerings such as Pac-Man double feature, Countermeasure 2 and Tiger Heli, all of which are excellent. Well done Atari!

It's loads of fun for us old Farts
I was pretty surprised on the packaging of the Atari. They wrapped this system up nice. If you are like me and remember the 80s the MTV era, you probably played or owned a Atari product. The 7800 is nice and smaller than the original one and is in HD (not really but uses a Hdmi cable to connect to the TV) and comes with almost all the things to hook it up and start playing. The game that is included is fun and my younger kids even enjoy it. The real fun was when I broke out my games from my original 2600 and 7800. Yes it will play the old cartridges. Now for the reason for not giving it 5 stars. 1. They cheaped out on a usb charging block. Not a big deal for me because I plugged it in the usb on my TV. 2. The wireless controller sucks. It works great for my kids but too small for my hands. I use the original controllers from my old 7800. I did give it a star back because the price dropped to $78 and I think that's a very reasonable price for this.

Love it! But, careful with how you hold the controller!
I never got to play a 7800 back in the day. I'm looking forward to playing some of the original catalog. I'm really impressed with the pack-in game Crystal Quest. It's very fun to play. I tried the 7800+ out with a few of my 2600 games. They all worked. This included the Activision game Double Dragon, which looks terrible on my CRT TV (it's a problem with the tv) but looks great on my flatscreen through the 7800+. I plugged the wireless 7800 controller into my 2600 Vader and it worked well, which is pretty cool. One note about the controller. It looks a lot like an NES controller, but you should not hold it the same way. You must use your index finger and middle finger to push the buttons during game play. Don't use your thumb on games that require you to use both buttons, like Crystal Quest. I keep my right thumb underneath the controller during game play. It took me a bit of time to get used to using a controller in this way. But, it's clear that playing with two fingers was the original intent of the controller based on its design.

Atari 2600 , check , Atari 7800 ,. check , Homebrew, Check , others , check
Works and plays great and I was blown away out how good the wireless controllers work , plus you can even use the controllers on your computer with the added dongle they give you. Shorty after I got mine they had an update where you can play some of the best homebrew around and that's Champ Games . Looks great on a modern TV as well

Does not work with Harmony or Atari game drive.
Don’t waste your time with this if you have backups of all your original cartridges on a harmony or an Atari game drive, they will not work in this system. It’s going back, the free game that came with this system wasn’t bad for the period of the hardware but not good enough to keep or pay $50 for on its own by any means. I did not like the remote either the buttons are too far apart, and the joystick portion is plastic and will probably break off at some point. Pairing the controller to the system was easy and I did not notice any lag, but that also depends on your TV. This system was specifically designed to hook, newbies into the genre to get them to buy expensive cartridges for inferior quality games. For the price of one new Atari 7800 game you could buy something like starfield, which took years to make instead of a cheap game that someone could type up in an afternoon and stick on a cartridge. The system was intended to rip people off of your hard earned cash for a whiff of nostalgia. Do yourself a favor and go and buy a real 7800 used on eBay, they’re very cheap and they work just fine and also have the original controllers. I feel like such an idiot for falling into this not so new Atari marketing scandal. They made some thing that only puts money in their pockets and not something that the retro gameplay consumers want.

No trae el eliminador de Corriente
Funciona tal cual está en la descripción, no me gustó que no incluya el eliminador de corriente que se necesita para su funcionamiento.

Easy to use, console uses physical cartridges
Excellent console, recommend if you want to play Atari 2600 and 7800 using HDMI connection. The wireless joystick os superb, very precise and the battery hold for a long time.

Awesome System, My Dad Loves it!
Bought this for my dad and it works great. I seen complaints of slower load time but have not faced that issue myself. I also got him a bunch of old 2600 games, like Ms Pacman, Space Invaders, Centipede, and many more. Best of all it plays them all! Bently Bears Crystal Quest is great too, and very catchy. I feel like if it existed back when this system was new, it would of gave Nintendo more of a run for it's mony. I also picked up a joystick for him and it makes games like Pacman easier to play.

Not just nostalgia!
OMG!!! I am so despondent with the state of video games right now, everything is overpriced, the consoles last a few months and need hundreds of dollars of repairs regularly and the games are pathetic, and then comes Atari. I had low expectations but wow! This thing plays all of my 45+year old Atari 2600 cartridges without issue, has some amazing people working on re-releasing classics like Berzerk and Asteroids. It is probably the easiest console I have ever had to set up, hdmi and usb for a power source. The controller pairs up quickly and has no lag or drift and all for an economical price. I will be buying a 2600 wireless controller for that full nostalgia trip. That is another thing, this console is compatible with anything from the 2600 and 7800. No the games are not what most are used to nowadays but if you are like me and sick of everything being a copy of three games (fortnite skyrim and gta) and multiplayer only then this console is for you. There are multiplayer functions but not the ridiculous everything has to include everyone on the face of the earth. Sometimes I just want to play a game without the entirety of earth being involved and it being fun is also a requirement.
