When walking down the narrow airplane aisles, I can switch to holding it with the top or side straps. I don't really use the large shoulder strap. I like that the bag has MOLLE loops on the outside to attach other things, but I don't currently use this feature since I want to keep the bag streamlined for travel purposes. It fits more than it has any right too, and yet it's exterior dimensions perfectly fit my carry-on allowance for an international TAP flight. The primary grip and the shoulder strap are padded for comfort, and there are compartments everywhere. The hinged flap design really makes getting into it very easy. Additionally the PALS webbing, which covers almost every free surface, allowed me to strap things like a travel pillow to the outside of the bag and tote it all very easily. Fantastic bag.
