It's more like rubber, stretchy and it's thick. The Dewitt honestly kinda feels like strong toilet paper and is good at protecting against sun scalding. However with a four inch tree you might need a couple rolls of the stuff I would recommend using for rodents. **Q: Will this protect against voles?** A: I do not know if this wrap will protect against voles. We used it on a huge maple tree that got sun scald and so far it has held up well against weather and insects that might have infiltrated the break in the bark.
