## Questions & Answers

**Q: When adding new fish or changing water do I have to use the entire 5ml/10gallon rule ?**
A: I would do it if it were me. Most fish come from pet stores that are severly overstocked and under maintained so they are already stressed when you bring them home. Add to that the fact that they are being moved for the umpteeth time and they can use all the help they can get. I will say that I do use half doses when I move my fish from one tank to another only because they tanks are well maintained and the water parameters are pretty much the same so the fish are less stressed. Other people may have different opinions but this is my process and it works for me. I have four tanks. I have a 125, 90, 55 and a 40. I have been in the hobby for over 15 years. I also keep two aquatic turtles as well. Hope this helps.

**Q: any views on this product versus API's stresscoat?**
A: Different products, API is a water conditioner, stressguard is an antiseptic for open wounds, cuts. I used StressGuard occasionally and API on water changes.

**Q: Does purigen have to be removed from filter?**
A: No you can add whenever etc.

**Q: Do you have to remove purigen from your filter**
A: No. Generally Seachem products are safe to use with other Seachem products. Normal filters, nor purigen filters have to be removed when using Stress Guard. It's perfectly safe.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good product, bad delivery
*by J***E on 1 February 2026*

My oscar fish got pretty beat up by another tankmate (which I got rid of after this). I did a couple salt dips after noticing a white outline on the edge of its fins. Its an albino so I couldn't tell if it was due to regrowth or infection. Either way the salt couldn't hurt. But the majority of the recovery was just using this. Seems to have worked well, some slow regrowth going now. He should make a full recovery. The bottle did arrive broken and it did spill inside the box. The lid snapped off. I don't think that was necessarily the companies fault as much as it was Amazon's. It took like half an hour going through menus just to get assistance. Absolutely ridiculous. But other than that it seems to have worked. Will continue dosing until it grows it back entirely. You can see the difference from the first day to now. First picture was on monday and the second was saturday. Not bad considering. It looks like it will be awhile before hes full go though. You can see his fins and tail were more frayed initially, but now they seem to be coming more together. I am doing frequent water changes now, to help it heal faster. I just redose for the amount I take out. I had a bottle of paraguard on standby seeing as I just started this tank, but I really should've have the stressguard instead. Will likely keep a bottle of this on hand now as well. EDIT: looking good. Pattern changed on it slightly since then, but its as happy as it was before the scuffle. Can hardly tell aside from a tiny bit missing off the top of the tail.
