It does take about 24 hours for it to reach its full thickness after being opened. It is not extremely dense but I have found it to be comfortable for my weight of 150 lbs. I think it might be less comfortable for someone weighing 200 lbs or more. It is definitely more comfortable than the coil spring mattress that came with the sofa. It folds easily into the sofa and rebounds quickly when needed. It does have the odor associated with foam products but this fades after a while.
