Make sure it is below the fuel pickup as this pump relies on being gravity fed. Next make sure you are using proper high flow rate filters before and after. Most inline pump failures occur because of improper flow rate on the filters. If it can’t be fed properly, then it can’t pump properly, as well as it can’t push fuel easily if the post filter can’t flow properly. Both of those conditions will cause your pump to run hot.
