Rope Cutting Gun Line, 100 Watt

Great rope cutting gun. Worked well with my Nylon 1/2 inch dock line rope. To me using this gun is easier (and less scary) than using something like a heated knife.

Very nicely made in Taiwan- (high quality tool, not Chinese garbage). Bought this tool to make clean cuts when running electrical wire and speaker cable inside protective Techflex braided sleeving. This tool melts the fiber ends and seals them. If you cut Techflex (braided sleeving) with scissors, because it is made from braided fiber strands, the ends will fray and the sleeve will begin to unravel. You NEED a hot knife to “cauterize” and melt the ends to prevent this. This tool works perfectly for the application and the handle design makes the hot knife rest at the optimal height on a flat surface or table for hands-free usage. Very happy with the price and quality. Instructions for use: 1) Plug unit into outlet and wait 5-10 minutes for it to warm up 2) Prepare your Techflex Braided Sleeve / Rope / Paracord and mark where you want to cut 3) Depress and hold the orange trigger which causes the the hot knife blade to heat 4) Continue to hold the trigger down to cut your material by placing it over the heated blade and pressing the material down. Do not burn your fingers and stay away from the hot knife blade- it is VERY HOT. ***I allow the unit 5 minutes to cool down before unplugging. I clean the hot knife blade with a towel soaked in water and it cleans up nice and easy**** Do NOT depress the trigger and heat the hot knife blade for more than 60 Seconds / One Minute !!!!! This is the warning from the manufacturer!!!!!

Hindsight being more 20/20, I could have bought a Weller rope cutting tip for my solder gun, but for the price, having a dedicated rope slicer and plastic melter is pretty handy. The thing works like a charm. It has to be a bootleg weller. Exact same feel

I am a bit embarrassed to admit I didn’t think this purchase through. When it arrived I realized I could have probably purchased just the heating tip with the blade. I am satisfied I now have a second soldering gun. It is made in Taiwan. Sold by a US company Sea Choice. This gun has a maximum use time of 60 seconds. That is plenty of time to make a single cut. It is interesting the heat is hottest right in the center of the blade tip. The nylon 1.5 inch strap melts more at that point before the edges melt. It’s not been a problem except on tubing strap that I squeeze to keep the tube open so the two sides don’t fuse. I thing it probable any such cutting blade would be the same. The Brand and country of origin are not on the gun. Only the label on the box has that information. It arrived with the blade tip not attached. The tip must be removed in order for it to fit in the box for storage. It is all satisfactory for the price.

I’ve used it a few times now and it’s worked great every time. Let’s face it, if you’re getting this one you don’t want to pay double or more for something that cuts ropes. Either because you don’t have that many long ropes laying around needing a good loping off, or (like me) it just doesn’t make sense to pay a lot of money for a tool that’s going to be exposed to a harsh salt air environment. That’s why I was really surprised this worked so well. It heated up very quickly and was very easy to handle. To the states faults or shortcomings in the other reviews maybe I can help... 1) “no instructions” this is true. Through trial and error, I worked this out. The plug was easy to figure out (I own a lamp). The next thing... pay very close attention to this part... hold the cool end... use the hot end to cut the rope. Trust me, it won’t work the other way. 2) OSHA wouldn’t approve. This is true. The OSHA approved rope cutters would be found in the butter knife section. For those on a time crunch, this works much better. 3) Breaks after a few uses/ cant fix yourself... this hasn’t been my experience, but I wouldn’t be surprised. If it does happen, I hope I’m not drunk enough to think of fixing it myself. There’s no scenario where that would end well. Have a pie pan around. Apparently a holding stand is a luxury for a $30 hot knife. Wire must be a premium commodity over there in China.

this gun heats up beautifully. I purchased it to cut 10 mm line for my sailboat, and then I went through my closet and fixed every frayed shoelace that I had. I’m like a kid in a candy store! It’s simple and it heats up to glowing red. Wonderful product.

Commercial dungeness fisherman here. I bought one because it was so inexpensive that I questioned its performance. Now I'm buying a bunch more just to have on hand because they are so convenient, portable and cut so effectively that I'm not concerned one bit with any of my line unraveling at all. They seem built well, but I can't speak directly to their durability besides that we used it while gearing out 464 pots to start the season. Even if one only last a season then it's still worth every red cent. By season's end I want at least a half a dozen in the cabinet just in case this model becomes hard to find all of a sudden.
