There are combinations of tableau building and area control all of which combine to make every decision one with consequences for that turn and future turns. Honestly I was surprised by just how much happened in so few turns. It is not for everyone. The game does have a lot of tricky elements which could prove difficult to explain and will definitely frustrate some players, but it was a hit with my usual gaming group who are used to me bringing out medium to medium-heavy strategy games.
