I wanted to try this stain+poly on an unprepped desktop...meaning no sanding at all. The desk was originally just polyurethane on pine. Turned super orange over the years, and has worn thin in spots. All I did was clean the desktop with distilled water, and then apply this Saman product with a cheap "10 for $1" kitchen sponge. I used the "coffee" color. I applied thin layers, about once an hour, for a total of about 6 thin coats of the stain+poly. It turned out way better than expected. Wood grain shows through. I love it. It's a hair tacky for a few days, but so is all poly, in my experience. I put my computer and monitor on it only after about 12 hours of dry time and nothing stuck to it or left any marks. This is one of the best products to update old furniture with minimal effort or cost. $10 and my desk looks like it will last another 20 years.
