Review: A sound investment - I’m fortunate enough to run two hi fi systems: a main setup in the living room and a smaller, vinyl focused system elsewhere in the house. Until recently, the secondary system relied on the built in phono stage of the Audiolab 6000A, fed by a Pro Ject Debut Carbon Evo. I was perfectly content with the sound, but I also knew it sat a few rungs below the performance of my main system. I’d often considered giving it a lift with a dedicated phono stage, and after reading several positive reviews of the iFi Zen Phono 3, I finally decided to try it. I’m naturally sceptical of claims that any piece of equipment performs miracles, and I won’t make those claims here. Does it make a difference? Yes. Is it a dramatic, night and day transformation? No. But the improvement is real and worthwhile. The best way I can describe it is this: it’s like looking at a scene through a window, then opening the window to get a clearer, more immediate view. Everything is still there, but more alive, more focused, and more detailed. Drums have a little extra snap, instruments separate more cleanly, and recordings feel clearer and more engaging. I’m using it with a moving magnet cartridge, so I can’t comment on its moving coil performance, though it’s reassuring to have those loading options at this price point. It’s not a boutique piece of kit, but in a sensibly matched system it does exactly what it should—complement and enhance the sound. Overall, I’m very happy with the Zen Phono 3 and glad I added it to the system. Review: Just buy , won't regret. - I had a Pro-ject Tube Box S2, but the power button was abit finicky and finally gave up the ghost so as I was torn between that and this ifI ZEN Phono 3 before. I decided this was a chance to give this ago, and I am not disappointed. There's more punch to the bass and the cymbals have more of a ring to them. And the sound stage is the best I've heard so far. ## Features - The ZEN Phono 3 supports four MM/MC gain selections from 36 to 72 dB and four input impedance parameters. - Mix and match gain and charge settings independently of each other with the brand new charging button, ensuring optimal compatibility with a wide range of cartridges and allowing you to achieve the "perfect" sound. - Electrical isolation reduces noise pollution from the analogue storey, ensuring that only the audio is amplified and the floor remains silent. - With an EIN (equivalent input noise) of -151dBV, this phono level exceeds some Class A+ models by 20dBV, ensuring ultra-quiet background noise - Features an accurate RIAA equalizer circuit with ±0.15dB tolerance from 20Hz to 20kHz, ensuring faithful reproduction of your vinyl records with exceptional accuracy ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B0D1R8YCQ5 | | Best Sellers Rank | 56,226 in Electronics & Photo ( See Top 100 in Electronics & Photo ) 51 in Home Audio Preamplifiers | | Box Contents | ZEN Phono 3 | | Brand | iFi | | Brand Name | iFi | | Colour | Red | | Compatible Devices | Yes, compatible with various audio equipment | | Connectivity Technology | RCA | | Customer Reviews | 4.4 out of 5 stars 78 Reviews | | Cycles | AC motor" or "Belt-drive motor | | EU Spare Part Availability Duration | 2 Years | | Enclosure Material | Aluminium | | Included components | ZEN Phono 3 | | Item Dimensions L x W x H | 11.7L x 15.8W x 3.6H centimetres | | Item Highlight | Precise RIAA Equalisation, 4 Gain Selections 36dB-72dB, High-Tech 1.2MHz Clean Internal Power Supply | | Manufacturer | Abbingdon Music Research | | Manufacturer Part Number | ZenPhonoV3 | | Material | Aluminium | | Maximum Rotational Speed | 33 RPM | | Maximum rotational speed | 33 RPM | | Model Name | Zen Phono 3 | | Model Number | Zen Phono 3 | | Number of Items | 1 | | Number of Packs | 1 | | Power Source | Corded Electric | | Product Features | Intelligent Warp Filter, Versatile Loading Options | | Product Warranty | 1 Year | | Signal Format | Analog | | Signal-to-Noise Ratio | 152.5 dB | | Special feature | Intelligent Warp Filter, Versatile Loading Options | | Style | Modern | | Style Name | Modern | | Unit Count | 1.0 count | ## Product Details - **Brand:** iFi - **Colour:** Red - **Compatible devices:** Yes, compatible with various audio equipment - **Included components:** ZEN Phono 3 - **Material:** Aluminium - **Maximum rotational speed:** 33 RPM - **Model name:** Zen Phono 3 - **Motor type:** AC motor" or "Belt-drive motor - **Special feature:** Intelligent Warp Filter, Versatile Loading Options - **Style:** Modern ## Images ![iFi Zen Phono 3 MM MC Phono Preamplifier with Balanced Output - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71QM93xf3QL.jpg) ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A sound investment *by D***G on 3 January 2026* I’m fortunate enough to run two hi fi systems: a main setup in the living room and a smaller, vinyl focused system elsewhere in the house.
