The Oregon Trail PS5

I grew up playing the original Oregon Trail in the computer lab at school, so I was really hoping this PS5 version would live up to those memories. It honestly blew me away. It hits every single nostalgia button (yes, you can still die of dysentery), but they added so much awesomeness that totally makes sense for a modern game. The graphics are exactly what I wanted—it's not trying to be some super high-end realistic AAA game, which would have ruined the vibe. Instead, it’s this beautiful mix of pixel art and 3D backgrounds that feels like a perfect, high-def tribute to the original. It looks crisp and colorful on the PS5 without losing that retro charm. The new mechanics (like fishing, better inventory management, and the new classes) add actual depth without making it overly complicated. It’s the game you remember, just bigger, better, and polished to perfection. If you loved this as a kid, you need this in your library.

I recently played the Oregon Trail video game on PlayStation 5 and overall, it's a great experience! The graphics are impressive and really bring the game to life. However, I found that the gameplay is more suited for a computer where you can use a keyboard. Navigating through the multiple options with a PlayStation controller can be a bit cumbersome, making it harder to select your answers quickly. Despite this, I still enjoyed the nostalgic journey!

So if you are not a serious gamer and are terrible at most video games, look no further. This is easy as far as controls go and its the same fun nostalgic game you might remember from elementary school days. It has a great tutorial in the beginning which let's you get a little practice in before embarking on your adventure.

This version is a vast improvement over the previous entries, including the ability to choose at the beginning who you'd like to bring along and customize their names (for select trails). Speaking of the trails, you have a selection of notable ones if offline and can go through them repeatedly with different builds. However, a few of the specialized trails require that you master the hunting mini-game in order to do well, and there are other challenges with modifiers that allow the player to obtain keys for unlockables. Overall, the enjoyment of this game is more dependent on if you plan to take it online and don't mind losing a lot to get a particular challenge just right.

Fun relaxing game. I showed my kids the original Oregon Trail when they were little kids. So it is very nostalgic! It is a good way to relax and unwind. Can not go wrong with it!
