## Description

Product Description German Fokker DR-I Triplane has a 20" wingspanIntroduced over the western front in August 1917, the Fokker Triplane soon became the favorite plane of Germany's greatest World War 1 ace, Baron Manfield von Richthofen. After scoring numerous aerial victories, von Richthofen was shot down in a triplane on April 21, 1918 by Captain Roy Brown of the R.A.F. • Precision laser cut balsa parts, scale WWI plastic wheels, full set of decals, vacuum formed plastic parts and all accessories needed • Fly with included rubber power motor or convert to electric or gas engine • Complete instructions for building either to fly or for static display From the Manufacturer Guillow's is the recognized leader in quality scale balsa model airplane kits. Our model construction kits are the last word in scale realism for the super detail fan and light weight for those who build and fly. Each model is a small but faithful replica of an airplane widely known for deeds in wartime or present day popularity. Series 200 features magnificent war birds of the 1914 - 1918 era. Fighters made famous by World War 1 aces like Bishop, Richthofen and Guynemer.

Review: Great kit! - This is a stick and rib balsa model so be aware of that. Ideally you need a proper building surface to make it. The laser cut parts are outstanding and with some cyanoacrylate glue it goes together fast. The plans are great but I found a mistake in them - it has to do with the wood sheathing on the bottom of the 'wing' between the wheels - but it's not a big deal, the two pieces are reversed on the plan (or the labellng on the parts is backwards, take you pick). Parts are clearly labeled, they pop out easily. One surprise was instead of getting a bundle of 1/16thx1/16th stringers, along with some 1/16x3/32" stringers, the box contains a strip of balsa that is sliced up for these parts. You need to cut them out of the piece to use them. Not a big deal at all, just be aware of the two different sizes on the same piece of wood. Several people have converted this exact model to radio control but there is nothing in the plans for this. Guillow designed it to be a free flying model so they can't be blamed for not having that in the instructions.
Review: Makes a beautiful display model but has one fault. - Kit design and laser cutting were very well done. Parts line up and fit properly. Only disappointment is the decals. The decals do not match the plans. The large solid black Maltese crosses for the bottom wing should have been on the white background and used for the upper wing where they extend onto the ailerons. The smaller crosses (on the white background) should have been solid black without the background for the narrower lower wing. The side decals, for you purists, are positioned on the plans too far rearward, just below the leading edge of the horizontal stabilizer. Photos (online) of the original aircraft Fok.FI102/17 (after which the kit was modeled) show the correct position. The decals in my kit were very brittle and one of them shattered like glass as I tried to position it on a pre-wetted wing. If you're going to use the decals in the kit you may want to use something like Micro Set/Micro Sol to aid in applying them.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How many pieces are in this kit?**
A: I don't remember, about 150, but pieces are not too small.

**Q: I bought a fokker dr-1 triplane and tried to put decals on and they fell all apark ?**
A: Mine did too, but i basically glued them on and used paint and clearcoat to keep them good. Also remember that this aircraft had a rotary engine, not a radial, so it send oil flying everywhere, especially being flown in combat, so after you make it nice with the paint scheme you choose, Red Baron or Werner Voss, etc., you can use a black wash(paint mixed with a thinner) and cover the cracks in the decals and any other imperfections. Remember it was a combat aircraft, look at some of the original photos at real WWI Fokkers and see how the oil made the plane look dirty. Mine came out amazing, I did not use the propeller it came with, I bought a wooden propeller and sanded it down to the proper size, I also made more realistic looking guns with wood and metal tubing, use your imagination, so many possibilities. Good Luck! Pauline

**Q: Is there canvas included to skin the plane?**
A: No. There is a red tissue sort of material that shrinks after you put it on the plane and get it wet with water.

**Q: does this come with machine guns or do you have to buy them seperate?**
A: It does come with machine guns however, the are part of the vacuum formed plastic and just okay. If there are any aftermarket I would suggest looking into upgrading. The reason that they are vacuumed formed is for weight. Remember that this model can be built to fly.
