Must have for the Light My Fire alone

*by M***S on Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2010*

I've had a 90 minute cassette of this show for a long time, and have been really hoping to have it in a more permanent medium.I absolutely love the Petition the Lord With Prayer into Light My Fire. This has been my favorite LMF since I first heard it.The rest of the show does not impress me. I don't particularly care for the set list as it lacks any of the special songs that were rarely played (for example Ship of Fools or Blue Sunday from this time). And frankly, though I respect the Doors' reinvigoration into the blues at this time, I may likely never play the Albert King stuff again. The other material is all conventional. The set list is a little disappointing for this time. But I can't praise the Light My Fire enough. It smokes from start to finish.I love Robbie's guitar solo ... love the Summertime quote ... and I love Jim's tangential forays into Summertime (completing Robie's thought?) and then right into St. James Infirmary. What can I say? I listen to this sequence over and over now. With regards to The End, which is what I always look for in a set, this one really doesn't distinguish itself. It's adequate, and I always enjoy hearing this signature tune, but don't expect to be blown away because it doesn't measure up to NYC Felt Forum or earlier Hollywood Bowl renditions.BTW, does anyone know if the Isle of Wight version exists complete anywhere? I absolutely love the few minutes that we get on the Message To Love movie about the festival. What a shame it's cut...

    Great Band, Legendary Gig

*by A***G on Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2011*

If you are like me and you have been collecting Doors live gig recordings for over 30 years, you too might think you already have this, or have already heard it. Right? Wrong! Big time. This is a complete recording, including every song performed as well as the time spaces between each track, with chat and commenting back and forth between the stage and Morrison. Just AMAZING. You have to get this one. This is the closest thing we have to a time machine, put on your headphones and you will be there, in Vancouver, listening to the best live band of all time, jamming with no less than Albert King! The Doors Rocked, King added to their subtle ambience, and you will feel like you have just experienced the best concert of that time. You can't ask for better. These guys really gave it all to you, they put everything they had into the concert. My thanks to the editor who had an obviously minimalist approach to this recording. This is what we want, to visit that event, to be there. No cuts. Excellent.George S. Australia.

    Live in Vancouver 1970

*by K***R on Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2010*

Being a long time doors fan I enjoyed this show. Yes the audio quality is not as good as Detroit, Boston, Pittsburg and other shows from the 1970 tour but it is a very good show. The whole band is on point and the set list is strong. There is a bit of a hiss that is easy to hear and the start of the show should have been cut down a bit but this is the complete show the way that it was played back in 1970.The fact that Albert King joins the band for 4 songs is a real treat. You can tell that they all were in great spirits and enjoyed playing with him. In my opinion this is the best part of the first disc. There is a bit of space between songs but it is a bootleg and that should be expected. The second disc is very good and closing with the End is amazing. Jim was not drunk at this show and the band were at top form. If you enjoy the doors live you should get this one. Overall I gave this show four stars and would have given it five if the audio quality was better. Now don't get me wrong it is not that bad and it is worth buying for the Albert King infused blues parts of the first disc.
