These are great to keep around the shop. I use them to keep my chisels or other single bevel tools sharp. They also work well for profiling like a hatchet or something similar that's been mistreated and needs work. I will say, keep them wet when you're using them or they'll gum up quick. I just spray a little glass cleaner on them and then wipe them off when Im done. For the price they seem perfectly fine for your average tasks.

These diamond stones work well for basic sharpening. I used them to flatten and hone some plane and chisel blades and they worked well. The 2000 grit gets things very sharp, though not as razor sharp as using a 8000 or higher stone, but for most purposes it’s sufficient. They clean up easily in water too. My only negative is that they are a bit short and lightweight, and the rubber backing can slip if you get aggressive with your sharpening, but it’s not a deal-breaker, and for the cost they are well worth it.

The sharpening stones arrived on-time, yay, and as advertised. The stones do a wonderful job on both my needs, chisels and planer blades. The non-slip backing, i knew they were going to be on the stones, are a bad idea as they are too thick and prevent a solid stable base needed for the sharpening. I do. I did know the stones were coming with the backing and I removed the it. The stones work much better using contact cement to mount them on thick glass or some other stable, flat surface. Great stones, backing didn't work for me but I tried. I know nothing about the longevity of these stones but have no reason to doubt them lasting.

I have used these diamond plates to sharpen half a dozen wood chisels so far, and am very pleased with the results. As other reviewers have suggested, I did a “break-in” procedure by using a large chisel, in my case, on all of the plates to remove any larger and looser pieces of grit, and used water to help float away the metal grit. Tools and plates were then wiped dry. I don’t remember if instructions came with the set, but I know that I can’t find any instructions now. The plates are well marked as to the grit size, appear to be well made, have a non-slip backing, and seem to cut effectively. The sharpening plates were used in combination with the GOINGMAKE sharpening guide set, also ordered through Amazon. I am quite pleased with both. The plates are somewhat small, so I would place a second plate behind the plate being used, to allow the roller of the sharpening guide to move a couple of inches further on each stroke. I sharpen with the sharp edge of the chisel pointed to the left, so for me, I put the second “overrun” diamond plate to the right of the first plate. I always kept the chisel point on the first plate, moving it back and forth pretty much the whole length of the plate, and allowed only the sharpening guide’s wheels to roll over part of the second plate. I found that setting the second plate perpendicular to the first in a T shape helped with stability. Despite the non-slip backing on the diamond plates, the plates wanted to move around on my bench. I clamped pieces of wood to the bench top to keep the plates from sliding, just snug enough that I could easily replace the plates as I rotated through the various grits.

They are okay. Slow for the reputation diamond stones have. I used these to flatten waterstones and flatten a bar of hss. It wasn't long until the cutting speed degraded a lot. They aren't getting any worse now, not worn out, but settled slower than some of my other diamond tools. I don't know the reason for why that is. Maybe there is a build quality difference. If I was to say grit numbers based on handling my collection of waterstones for reference. 460 1300 1500 is about where they settled in. I have found these work better dry. Some of my better waterstones cut faster and the cheap stones don't. So, I think these are better than the bargain waterstones but not as good as quality waterstones once they have settled in. That said, after all of the use I put them through cutting very hard material, I was still able to re profile three chisles and sharpen them in a couple hours. It took me half a day to re profile one chisle on a cheap waterstone. Lot of metal to remove to get the angle I want for the purpose I want. Because these are thin, I use glass with double sided tape to keep them from bending. There isn't a lot of room for my hands doing it that way. If I get more diamond stones, I want to have the bar type next time.

So far the three diamond plates appear to be very flat and work well. I used the 240 and 600 to flatten my water stones. I had a chisel with a large nick in it, the 240 grit removed it very quickly. These appear to be a good value to me.

Do not buy these They are absolute trash. I sharpened one side of my knife and the plate was slick. They are also so thin that they bend when you hold them in your hand to sharpen. Spend $10 more and get decent plates

I am a woodworker, so I have put these stones through very heavy use, mostly in restoring old tools. I have bought two sets of these, and now a third. If your intention as a woodworker is to have a permanent stone that will last for years, this is not the product for you. These will wear out quickly with heavy use, this includes making a slightly uneven surface after repeated wear, which is to be expected. That being said, for the time in which is does work, it works very well and I have no complaint, only in that they wear out quickly. So, if you're a woodworker just starting out and you need a quick and cheap set of stones, this is a good place to start until you buy a high quality oil or water stone. If you intend this for kitchen use, then this might actually be a fantastic set for you.
