As of 6/18/2025 there is still no official OpenWRT firmware available, even though the r2s plus has been available for at least six months. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Capable little router *by W***E on August 14, 2025* This one tough cookie. Built like a tank, with an all-metal case that doubles as one big heatsink. There is a thermal pad between the main chip and a bump inside the case. Getting it up and running was a breeze. I had obtained the wifi module separately so I had to mount it and its antennas. Those are unusual circular antennas and I don't know if they have less gain than the more common traditional antennas. They saw all the wifi networks that my laptop can see, so I don't see any problem. They do help keeping the unit compact, which e.g. for traveling is a big plus. If you do end up needing more gain, they use standard connectors so you could swap them out for an high-gain antenna. Pay attention to the product description: it needs a SDIO wifi module and not the now more common pcie modules even though it uses the same M.2 connector. Actually if you want wifi it is easier to order the product variant that has wifi pre-installed which you can find on its own Amazon listing page. The provided firmware which you can download is called FriendlyWrt, an OpenWRT clone, which probably has some tweeks to support the hardware of this unit but at the user interface or functionality level I can't tell the difference. Quite responsive.
